3 * mke2fs.c (zap_sector): Clear the buffer *after* testing for the
4 BSD sector label. Otherwise the first 512 bytes don't get
5 zapped. (Addresses Debian bug #147256.)

8
9 * mke2fs.8.in: Cleaned up man page, and made it a bit more
10 OS-agnostic. Addresses Debian bug #144621. Hope this
11 makes the Hurd whiners happy. :-)

22
23 * mke2fs.c (set_fs_defaults): make the default inode ratio at most
24 one inode per block for large blocksizes.
25
Theodore Ts'o31e29a12002-05-17 10:53:07 -0400262002-05-17 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@mit.edu>
27
28 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Determine the page size using sysconf() at
29 runtime, instead of using the Linux system header files.
30
312002-05-16 Andreas Dilger <adilger@clusterfs.com>
32
33 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Allow blocksizes larger than 4k to be specified,
34 with warning printed and the user questioned if blocksize
35 is larger than the system's page size according to the
36 Linux kernel header files. Added better checking for
37 valid inode sizes, and again print a warning message if
38 using a large inode size (since most kernels today don't
39 support this yet).

90 * get_device_by_label.c: Since on non-STDC compilers, we define
91 away const, include get_device_by_label.h after we include
92 fsck.h.
93
94 * Makefile.in (base_device): Remove use of $<, which is

99 * Release of E2fsprogs 1.26
100
1012002-02-03 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o5599c2f2002-02-03 00:08:52 -0500102
103 * fsck.c (interpret_type): Allow filesystems types of the form
104 "ext3,ext2", etc.
105
106 * fstype.c (identify_fs): Add support for only searching for a

108 identifying reiserfs filesystems.
109
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001102002-01-29 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'oa1069112002-01-29 12:49:14 -0500111
112 * fsck.c: Allow the number of outstanding processes fs-specific
113 fsck programs to be capped via the FSCK_MAX_INST
114 envrionment variable.
115
116 * fsck.8.in: Document all of the environment variables used by fsck.
117
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001182002-01-27 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o177ab2b2002-01-27 18:23:49 -0500119
120 * tune2fs.8.in: Document the -f flag to tune2fs.
121
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001222002-01-02 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o5493a272002-01-02 14:15:35 -0500123
124 * badblocks.c (main): Open the device as O_RDWR if possible, since
125 fsync() isn't guaranteed to work if the filesystem is
126 opened read-only.
127
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001282001-12-26 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'od4de4aa2001-12-26 08:58:01 -0500129
130 * tune2fs.8.in, tune2fs.c (parse_tune2fs_options, main): Add
131 support for new option, -T, which allows the user to set
132 the last checked time on the filesystem.
133
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001342001-12-24 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o6a525062001-12-24 09:40:00 -0500135
Theodore Ts'o3ed57c22001-12-24 15:01:59 -0500136 * mke2fs.c (main, test_disk): If two -c options are
137 specified, then perform a destructive read/write test
138 of the disk.
139
140 * mke2fs.8.in: Document the double -c option; also encourage users
141 to use -c instead of the -l/-L options since it's too hard
142 for users to get things like the blocksize parameter correct.
143
144 * badblocks.8.in: Encourage users to use the -c option in mke2fs
145 and e2fsck instead of running badblocks directly.
146
Theodore Ts'o6a525062001-12-24 09:40:00 -0500147 * mke2fs.c (create_lost_and_found): The lost+found directory is
148 now created with 0700 permissions, since files which get
149 dropped into that directory may have come from a protected
150 directory, and the system administrator may not deal with
151 immediately. (Addresses Debian bug #118443)
152
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001532001-12-23 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o19007e52001-12-23 19:33:51 -0500154
155 * Makefile.in, jfs_user.h: Move linux/jbd.h to
156 ext2fs/kernel-jbd.h, to avoid using the system header
157 file version of hbd.h when using diet glibc (since it
158 forcibly adds /usr/include to the beginning of the
159 include search path.)
160
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001612001-12-22 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'oeaf4dc52001-12-22 00:04:22 -0500162
163 * get_device_by_label.c (init_lvm): Add support to read out
164 information from the LVM proc hierarchy, so that the UUID
165 cache can search the LVM logical volumes for UUID's,
166 labels, etc.
167
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001682001-12-21 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o0655b102001-12-21 23:59:46 -0500169
170 * dumpe2fs.c (list_bad_blocks): Change to not die if the listing
171 of the bad blocks can't be found. Slimmed down dumpe2fs
172 by eliminating duplicate code paths.
173
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001742001-12-16 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o8cf93332001-12-16 02:23:36 -0500175
Theodore Ts'o4ea7bd02001-12-16 23:23:37 -0500176 * dumpe2fs.c (list_desc), fsck.c (fs_match),
177 get_device_by_label.c (get_label_uuid),
178 mke2fs.c (set_fs_defaults, zap_sector, PRS),
179 tune2fs.c (remove_journal_device, update_feature_set),
180 util.c (figure_journal_size), util.h: Fix gcc -Wall nits.
181
182 * e2image.c (write_raw_image_file): Fix gcc -Wall nits, and use
183 the stashed inode functions to optimize away system calls.
184
Theodore Ts'o8cf93332001-12-16 02:23:36 -0500185 * Makefile.in, jfs_user.h: linux/jfs.h has been renamed to
186 linux/jbd.h
187
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001882001-12-02 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'oa5f0bb92001-12-02 19:29:35 +0100189
190 * dumpe2fs.c: Don't print the offset to the bitmap and inode table
191 if it's negative. Also did some generalized code clean up
192 to slim it down the support of the -x option.
193
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05001942001-11-24 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'oa36cf922001-11-24 16:13:49 -0500195
196 * e2image.8.in: Fix cut-and-paste typo (Addresses Debian bug
197 #119624)

Theodore Ts'o6ef39202001-11-13 18:49:09 -0500200
201 * util.c (check_plausibility): Use stat64 if available so that
202 check_plausibility() works with files > 2GB.
203
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05002042001-11-05 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'o6430bd62001-11-05 18:58:46 -0500205
Theodore Ts'ob3f5b4c2001-11-05 19:22:02 -0500206 * chattr.1.in: Update the man page to document the EXT2_NOTAIL_FL
207 flag.
208
209 * chattr.c: Add support for the EXT2_NOTAIL_FL flag.
210
Theodore Ts'o6430bd62001-11-05 18:58:46 -0500211 * fsck.c (interpret_type): If the "auto" type is specified, make
212 sure interpet_device() is called so that device
213 specifications which use LABEL= or UUID= are translated
214 into a real device name.
215
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05002162001-10-12 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>
Theodore Ts'oe3ef3502001-11-05 18:57:43 -0500217
218 * e2image.c (output_meta_data_blocks): Optimize away excess
219 lseek() calls when creating a sparse file. Fewer system
220 calls are a good thing. <g>
221
Andreas Dilger568101f2001-10-13 01:22:25 -06002222001-10-07 Andreas Dilger <adilger@turbolinux.com>
223
224 * mke2fs.c (main): Always exit with non-zero code in case of error.
225
226 * mke2fs.c (zap_sector): Check that buffer allocation succeeded.

Theodore Ts'of6a6afc2001-09-19 18:27:39 -0400234 * tune2fs.c (remove_journal_inode): Remove dead code that wasn't
235 in use.
236
Theodore Ts'o39567c42001-09-19 15:28:21 -0400237 * tune2fs.8.in: Update man page to reflect the fact that adding or
238 removing a journal doesn't require running e2fsck.
239
Theodore Ts'oa5f3f5c2002-02-03 01:00:22 -05002402001-09-13 Theodore Tso <tytso@mit.edu>

242 * mke2fs.c (zap_sector): Allocate sufficient space for
243 zero-filled buffer.
244

251 * mke2fs.c (main): Fix version format string.
252
Theodore Ts'o109624a2001-08-31 00:59:55 -04002532001-08-30 Theodore Tso <tytso@thunk.org>

Theodore Ts'o177a9ac2001-08-30 18:07:40 -04002572001-08-30 Theodore Tso <tytso@valinux.com>
258
259 * badblocks.8.in: Fix spelling typo. (Addresses Debian bug #110621)
260
Theodore Ts'o04a96852001-08-30 21:55:26 -0400261 * mke2fs.c (zap_sector): Now takes a third argument, which is how
262 many sectors to clear out. Fixed up Andreas's patch to
263 make it a bit more efficient/compact.
264
Andreas Dilger59f27242001-08-30 15:39:04 -06002652001-08-30 Andreas Dilger <adilger@turbolinux.com>
266
267 * mke2fs.c (main): Zap the second sector of the disk, along with
268 any sectors in the same filesystem block after the superblock.
269 The latter will remove (for example) swapspace signatures
270 on 4kB+ blocksize filesystems. Also when zeroing the "end"
271 of the filesystem don't actually zero the start of a very
272 small device (less than 64 blocks).
273
Theodore Ts'o0f8973f2001-08-27 12:44:23 -04002742001-08-27 Theodore Tso <tytso@valinux.com>
275
Andreas Dilger59f27242001-08-30 15:39:04 -0600276 * fsck.c (main): Make version display consistent with the other
Theodore Ts'o0f8973f2001-08-27 12:44:23 -0400277 e2fsprogs programs.
278
279 * lsattr.c, chattr.c, mke2fs.c, tune2fs.c, dumpe2fs.c, e2image.c,
280 mklost+found.c: Remove EXT2FS_VERSION from the version
281 display, since it only confuses people.
282
Theodore Ts'oe843c762001-08-18 14:22:25 -04002832001-08-18 Theodore Tso <tytso@valinux.com>
284
285 * tune2fs.c (remove_journal_device): Remove unused variable
286 check_uuid.
287
288 * get_device_by_label.h: Define function prototype for
289 copy_string(), since this was moved from fsck.c to
290 get_device_by_label.c by Andreas's BK changeset.
291
Andreas Dilger2d155762001-08-17 03:48:11 -06002922001-08-17 Andreas Dilger <adilger@turbolinux.com>
293
294 * get_device_by_label.[ch], fsck.c, util.c: New interpret_spec()
295 function in get_device_by_label.c to allow the use of
296 UUID= or LABEL= when creating filesystems which use external
297 journal dev (e.g. mke2fs -J device=LABEL=<journal_label>).
298
299 * tune2fs.c: Use superblock s_journal_uuid to locate an external
300 journal device instead of s_journal_dev when removing it.
301 Allow opening journal devices to set the label and UUID
302 in the ext2 superblock.
303
304 * mke2fs.c, tune2fs.c: Free journal_device after use, as it is
305 malloc'd in interpret spec.
306
Theodore Ts'od2586682001-08-15 11:03:58 -04003072001-08-15 Theodore Tso <tytso@valinux.com>
308
Theodore Ts'o943ed872001-08-27 12:29:22 -0400309 * Release of E2fsprogs 1.23
310
3112001-08-15 Theodore Tso <tytso@valinux.com>
312
Theodore Ts'o7141b542001-08-15 19:17:37 -0400313 * tune2fs.c: Make sure that error messages are sent to stderr, and
314 normal messages are sent to stdout. (Addresses Debian bug
315 #108555.)
316
Theodore Ts'o1d349cc2001-08-15 19:06:55 -0400317 * fsck.8.in: Fixed error in synopsis of the man page.
318
Theodore Ts'o88f8af62001-08-15 18:39:51 -0400319 * fsck.c (check_all): Don't bother to interpret a device where the
Theodore Ts'o685c13f2001-08-15 19:04:59 -0400320 pass number is zero. (Addresses Debian bug #106696.)
321 (main): Print a warning message if there are no devices to
322 be checked. (Addresses Debian bug #107458.)
Theodore Ts'o88f8af62001-08-15 18:39:51 -0400323
Theodore Ts'of3561ed2001-08-15 11:58:16 -0400324 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Handle -O and -s options in line in the getopt
325 loop, so that -s and -O handling are a bit more intuitive.

Theodore Ts'o4055ef72001-01-14 16:11:14 +00006622001-01-14 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
663
Theodore Ts'o44c09c02001-01-14 17:02:09 +0000664 * mke2fs.c: Add new filesystem types, largefile and largefile4,
665 for those filesystems whose average inode size is 1MB and
666 4MB, respectively. Allow the inode ratio specified to be
667 has high as 4MB. Make the s_max_mount_count vary between
668 20 and 40, to avoid needing to check all of the
669 filesystems at the same time. Add some random jitter to
670 the s_max_mount_count value so that we avoid checking all
671 of the filesystems at the same time when we reboot.
672
Theodore Ts'o08dd8302001-01-14 16:25:58 +0000673 * tune2fs.8.in: Add description of the -j option.
674
Theodore Ts'o4055ef72001-01-14 16:11:14 +0000675 * tune2fs.c (add_journal): Minor fixes from Andreas Dilger. Flush
676 stdout after printing in-progress message.
677 (main): Exit with status code 1 if we failed to determine
678 the mount status of the device.
679
Theodore Ts'odfcdc322001-01-11 15:38:00 +00006802001-01-11 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
681
Theodore Ts'oc8c071a2001-01-11 16:08:23 +0000682 * e2image.c, mke2fs.c, mklost+found.c, tune2fs.c, util.c,
683 uuidgen.c: Fix gcc -Wall complaints, including one bug in
684 tune2fs caused by a block automatic shadowing version of
685 the variable we really wanted to use, which broke the
686 logic testing to see if the filesystem was mounted.
687
Theodore Ts'o4d404542001-01-11 16:04:59 +0000688 * badblocks.c (flush_bufs): Use ext2fs_sync_device() to sync and
689 flush the device.
690
Theodore Ts'odfcdc322001-01-11 15:38:00 +0000691 * mke2fs.c: Change ino_t to ext2_ino_t.
692
Theodore Ts'o83238152001-01-09 00:16:26 +00006932001-01-08 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
694
695 * Makefile.in, tune2fs.c: Move e2label functionality into tune2fs,
696 using argv[0] as a dispatch. This allows e2label to be
697 (more) safely used on mounted filesystems.
698
Theodore Ts'o8820c792001-01-06 04:20:03 +00006992001-01-05 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
700
701 * get_device_by_label.h (get_volume_label_by_spec): Add function
702 prototype.
703
704 * get_device_by_label.c: Use string_copy() instead of strdup() for
705 portability's sake. Fix a few other gcc -Wall
706 complaints.
707
708 * fsck.c (string_copy): Export string_copy() extern.
709
710 * badblocks.c: Fix various gcc -Wall complaints, including
711 an incorrect reference to sync in flush_bufs().
712
Theodore Ts'o63985322001-01-03 17:02:13 +00007132001-01-03 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
714
715 * tune2fs.c (update_feature_set, add_journal): Moved to separate
716 functions. Added ability to add and remove the journal
717 while the filesystem is live. Added support for setting
718 a time-based UUID. Removed zero-initialized static variables.
719
720 * mke2fs.c, util.c, util.h (strcasecmp, proceed_question,
721 check_plausibility, parse_journal_opts, check_mount):
722 Moved functions to util.c so they can be used by tune2fs.
723
724 * mke2fs.c (main): Change ext2fs_add_journal_fs() to
725 ext2fs_add_journal_inode() to reflect function renaming.
726
Theodore Ts'ob21e38a2001-01-01 15:26:58 +00007272001-01-01 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
728
Theodore Ts'oef9abe52001-01-01 15:31:53 +0000729 * mke2fs.c, e2image.c: Removed references to struct ext2fs_sb to
730 struct ext2_super_block.
731
Theodore Ts'ob21e38a2001-01-01 15:26:58 +0000732 * tune2fs.c (main): Add support to allow HAS_JOURNAL flag to be
733 cleared, but only if the filesystem is unmounted or
734 mounted read-only. Changed struct ext2fs_sb to struct
Theodore Ts'oef9abe52001-01-01 15:31:53 +0000735 ext2_super_block, and cleaned up old code which was needed
736 for old versions of ext2_fs.h (not needed since we're
737 using our own version now).
Theodore Ts'ob21e38a2001-01-01 15:26:58 +0000738
Theodore Ts'o9a718842000-12-31 13:48:12 +00007392000-12-31 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
740
Theodore Ts'od4cf2fc2000-12-31 14:09:38 +0000741 * fsck.c (check_all): Call interpet_device to resolve LABEL= and
742 UUID= right away so that the device_already_active() logic
743 can do the right thing. Also cleaned up the the root
744 filesystem logic checking code; fixed up a logic bug with
745 the parallel_root option.
746
Theodore Ts'of10748d2000-12-31 13:55:14 +0000747 * lsattr.1.in: Add pointer to chattr man page for definition of
748 the file attributes.
749
750 * lsattr.c (list_attributes): Minor cleanup to smooth out logic
751 flow. Also removed static initialized variables to zero.
752
Theodore Ts'o9a718842000-12-31 13:48:12 +0000753 * chattr.c (decode_arg, get_flag): Use a table-driven method for
754 decoding the ext2 file flags character options. Add
755 support for the journaled data flag.
756
757 * chattr.1.in: Document the -j/+j/=j flag.
758
Theodore Ts'o16ad3332000-12-31 03:21:56 +00007592000-12-30 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
760
761 * mke2fs.8.in: Minor clarity edit.
762
763 * mke2fs.c (usage): Document the -j option.
764 (main): Print the number blocks used in the journal.
765
Theodore Ts'ob9fd8c12000-12-29 03:10:45 +00007662000-12-28 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
767
768 * base_device.c (base_device): Add support for DAC960 device
769 names.
770
771 * fsck.c (device_already_active): Handle the case where
772 base_device doesn't know how to interpret the device name,
773 instead of core dumping.
774
Theodore Ts'o74a74d22000-12-09 14:33:29 +00007752000-12-09 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
776
Theodore Ts'od48755e2000-12-09 14:36:04 +0000777 * mke2fs.c (main, parse_journal_opts): Add support for creating V1
778 superblocks. We now pass in a journal_flags field to the
779 journal creation routines for this purpose.
780
781 * mke2fs.c: Remove zero initializers to save a few bytes from the
782 executable image. (Are we excited yet?)
783
Theodore Ts'o74a74d22000-12-09 14:33:29 +0000784 * findsuper.c: And non-subtle copyright licensing restriction to
785 get Yann to remove this program from the Debian package. :-)
786
Theodore Ts'o793e27d2000-12-03 06:33:56 +00007872000-12-03 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
788
789 * fsck.c (device_already_active): Change to use new version of
790 base_device() which now returns dynamically allocated
791 memory.
792
793 * base_device.c (base_device): New version moved from fsck.c which
794 now understands ugly devfs names. (Debian bug #65181)
795
796 * base_device.tst: Test case for base_device.c
797
Theodore Ts'oe1c6b2f2000-12-02 06:19:33 +00007982000-12-02 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
799
Theodore Ts'o2d091792000-12-02 07:03:32 +0000800 * fsck.8.in: Add clarification that filesystems with a fs_passno
801 of 0 are skipped with the -A option. (Debian wishlist/bug
802 #63442)
803
Theodore Ts'oe9f9dd82000-12-02 06:35:07 +0000804 * fsck.c (wait_one): When we let a new fsck take control of the
805 console to display the progress bar, set FLAG_PROGRESS to
806 so that fsck knows not to start new processes during an
807 fsck pass with the progress bar. (Should fix debian bug
808 #65267)
809
Theodore Ts'oe1c6b2f2000-12-02 06:19:33 +0000810 * tune2fs.8.in: Add clarifying statement about converting user and
811 group names to uid's before storing them in the
812 superblock. (Debian bug #67446)
813
Theodore Ts'o8ddaa662000-11-17 04:55:24 +00008142000-11-16 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
815
816 * mke2fs.c(main): Expand the -j option so that it parses
817 option=argument style options, and add support for
818 creating filesystems with external journals.
819
820 * mke2fs.8.in: Document new syntax for the -j option.
821
Theodore Ts'o72ed1262000-11-12 19:32:20 +00008222000-11-05 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
823
824 * e2image.c, Makefile.in: New program which saves ext2 metadata to
825 a file for people who need a last-ditch saving throw.
826
Theodore Ts'o85ef4ae2000-10-24 19:33:45 +00008272000-10-24 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
828
Theodore Ts'of6f65832000-10-25 03:01:37 +0000829 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Applied Andreas Dilger's patch to make the -r -s
830 handling a bit more sane. (Even though -s is deprecated
831 at this point.)
832
Theodore Ts'o0056be12000-10-25 02:24:33 +0000833 * get_device_by_label.c: Apply fix from Erik Troan to support 16
834 character labels.
835
Theodore Ts'o43819662000-10-25 02:06:09 +0000836 * fsck.c (device_already_active): Add a special case check for MD
837 devices, so we don't try to check them in parallel with
838 other devices.
839
Theodore Ts'o85ef4ae2000-10-24 19:33:45 +0000840 * mke2fs.c (PRS, main), mke2fs.8.in: Add support for the -j
841 option, which builds an ext2/3 filesystem with an ext3
842 journal.
843
Theodore Ts'oe294cf22000-10-24 18:41:44 +00008442000-10-24 <tytso@valinux.com>
845
846 * mke2fs.c (zap_sector): Fix really stupid typo which gcc 2.95
847 didn't catch.
848
Theodore Ts'o3f1e9a52000-09-12 21:21:52 +00008492000-09-12 <tytso@valinux.com>
850
851 * fsck.c: Add base device definitions for hd[e-h], for those
852 systems with four IDE interfaces.
853
Theodore Ts'od7e39b02000-09-11 17:01:35 +00008542000-09-11 <tytso@valinux.com>
855
856 * mke2fs.c (zap_sector): Fix error message printed when zap_sector
857 fails.
858
859 * dumpe2fs.c (list_desc): Fixed format string bug when printing
860 the inode table location in non-hex format.
861
Theodore Ts'o556ccbd2000-08-20 19:11:05 +00008622000-08-20 <tytso@valinux.com>
863
864 * get_device_by_label.c: Add call to ext2fs_find_block_device if
865 we can't find the device using the name given by
866 /proc/partitions. (This can happen if devfs is compiled
867 into the kernel, but not mounted.)
868
Theodore Ts'o80c22c92000-08-14 15:32:11 +00008692000-06-27 Andreas Dilger <adilger@turbolabs.com>
870
871 * dumpe2fs.c (usage): add fhx options to usage message, add -x option
872 to print out the per-group block numbers in hex, add line for
873 location of primary/backup superblock and group descriptors
874
875 * mke2fs.c: rename max to group_blk_max avoid potential macro conflict
876
Theodore Ts'oe41784e2000-08-14 14:44:15 +00008772000-08-14 <tytso@valinux.com>
878
879 * mke2fs.c (zap_sector): Change zap_bootsect to more general
880 zap_sect.
881 (main): Clear the superblock when starting mke2fs, to
882 avoid leaving the filesystem in an inconsistent state.
883
Theodore Ts'o28412de2000-07-27 02:45:55 +00008842000-07-26 <tytso@valinux.com>
885
886 * get_device_by_label.c: Improve /proc/partitions parsing in
887 fsck, and speed up fsck -a.
888
Theodore Ts'of9e67062000-07-13 23:25:54 +00008892000-07-13 <tytso@valinux.com>
890
891 * Release of E2fsprogs 1.19
892
Theodore Ts'oa551b782000-07-13 22:05:31 +00008932000-07-13 <tytso@snap.thunk.org>
894
895 * badblocks.8.in: Added text explaining that the -n and -w options
896 are mutually exclusive.
897
898 * badblocks.c (usage): Fix usage message to make it clear that the
899 block count must be specified if the starting block is to
900 be specified. (The starting block should be a option, in
901 the long run.)
902
903 * badblocks.c (test_nd): Save and restore the currently_testing
904 variable before going into the write verification loop.
905 This avoids a loop termination problem if the last block
906 on the disk is bad. Also, turn off the SIGALRM signal
907 while restoring blocks after the user types ^C. The
908 num_saved variable is now static so that it won't get
909 clobbered by a longjmp. buf_used and bb_count are no
910 longer static, since they aren't used by the cleanup
911 routines anymore.
912
913 * badblocks.c (main): Removed an unsued varaible (buf_size).
914 Fixed bad getopt argument that didn't allow the 'b' option
915 to take an argument. Added error checking when parsing
916 the starting block number. Fixed lint warning in fscanf
917 format string.
918
Theodore Ts'o35964b52000-07-06 13:19:43 +00009192000-07-06 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
920
Theodore Ts'o19c68912000-07-07 03:25:13 +0000921 * fsck.c (execute, wait_one): Treat fsck.ext3 the same as
922 fsck.ext2 (because they are the same) for the purposes of
923 the progress bar display logic.
924
Theodore Ts'o45d9e2f2000-07-07 03:12:54 +0000925 * tune2fs.8.in: Update manual page to document what happens if
926 max_mount_count is negative.
927
928 * tune2fs.c (main): Allow setting the maximal count value to be
929 negative, since the kernel interprets that as forcing a
930 check.
931
Theodore Ts'o5b1519b2000-07-06 14:16:08 +0000932 * fsck.c (lookup, load_fs_info, check_all): Use lazy evaluation
933 for calling interpret_device(), since this requires root
934 privileges if the partitions need to be scanned.
935 Otherwise, it's not possible to do non-proot fsck's for
936 removeable devices such as floppies if there are any
937 LABEL= or UUID= entries in /etc/fstab.
938
Theodore Ts'o981dc562000-07-06 14:13:29 +0000939 * badblocks.c (check_mount, main): Check to see if the filesystem
940 is mounted before doing a read/write or non-destructive
941 test. This can be overriden using the new -f option.
942
Theodore Ts'o35964b52000-07-06 13:19:43 +0000943 * badblocks.8.in: Update manual page to reflect that the
944 blocks-count parameter is now optional. Also properly
Theodore Ts'o981dc562000-07-06 14:13:29 +0000945 document the start-block parameter. Added documentation
946 for the -f option.
Theodore Ts'o35964b52000-07-06 13:19:43 +0000947
948 * badblocks.c (main): Allow the blocks-count parameter to be
949 optional. If it's not specified, use the size of the
950 device as a default.
951
Theodore Ts'od49a22b2000-07-06 00:31:27 +00009522000-07-05 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
953
954 * badblocks.c (test_nd): Significantly simplify the logic so that
955 it's more obviously what's going on. Fixed a few
956 potential cases which weren't handled correctly in the
957 old, overly complicated logic.
958 (flush_bufs): Now doesn't take a second argument, and
959 always forces a sync; this is required before it's really
960 safe to call BLKFLSBUF, at least for some kernels.
961
Theodore Ts'o26ab5312000-05-29 15:05:42 +00009622000-05-29 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
963
964 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Add a much more specific error message if the
965 filesystem size is defaulted and get_device_size returns a
966 size of zero. Otherwise, users get a confusing "invalid
967 argument while passed to ext2 library" error message.
968
Theodore Ts'o4ea0a112000-05-08 13:33:17 +00009692000-05-08 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
970
Theodore Ts'oc96e5112000-05-08 14:47:15 +0000971 * fsck.c (interpret_device): Add better error messages if a UUID=
972 or LABEL= specification is given.
973
Theodore Ts'o4ea0a112000-05-08 13:33:17 +0000974 * mke2fs.c (main): We forcibly turn off the filetype feature if
975 the OS is the hurd, since the hurd doesn't support it.
976 (And since the hurd allows the transmogrification of files
977 to special files and vice versa --- for no good reason
978 that I can understand --- it can't support the filetype
979 feature for the forseeable future, either.)
980
981 * mke2fs.c (proceed_question): Fix reversed sense of
982 proceed_question that was busted due to the
983 internationalization patch. Fixed bug where if
984 proceed_question was called twice, the input buffer wasn't
985 cleared of the previous question's newline.
986
Theodore Ts'oe2207ce2000-04-06 21:51:18 +0000987Thu Apr 6 17:50:25 2000 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@signal.thunk.org>
988
989 * badblocks.c (flush_bufs): Use fsync() if the system doesn't
990 support fdatasync().
991
Theodore Ts'offe4cab2000-04-03 13:27:41 +00009922000-04-03 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
993
Theodore Ts'o373b8332000-04-03 16:22:35 +0000994 * badblocks.c, dumpe2fs.c, e2label.c, mke2fs.c, tune2fs.c,
995 uuidgen.c: For platforms that don't define optarg.h,
996 manually define optarg and optind.
997
Theodore Ts'o4d003982000-04-03 16:01:11 +0000998 * badblocks.8.in: Updated manual page with suggestions from David
999 Beattie.
1000
1001 * badblocks.c (test_nd): Generalized cleanup and bug-fixes. We
1002 now explicitly clear out the signal handlers to prevent a
1003 longjmp to a deactivated stack frame.
1004 (test_rw): Fixed a signed vs. unsigned comparison error.
1005
Theodore Ts'offe4cab2000-04-03 13:27:41 +00001006 * badblocks.8.in, chattr.1.in, dumpe2fs.8.in, lsattr.1.in,
1007 mklost+found.8.in, tune2fs.8.in: Update Remy Card's e-mail
1008 address.
1009 chattr.1.in: Update which attributes aren't supported.
1010
Theodore Ts'oe1a0a3e2000-02-11 05:00:19 +000010112000-02-09 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@valinux.com>
1012
1013 * chattr.1.in:
1014 * lsattr.1.in: Change "version" to "version/generation number".
1015
1016 * chattr.1.in: Fix stupid file vs filesystem typo.
1017
1018 * tune2fs.c Fix spelling error (spare vs sparse).
1019
1020 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Add safety check to make sure the number of
1021 blocks doesn't exceed 32 bits on a 64 bit machine.
1022
1023 * chattr.c: Random cleanup; file-only variables are now static.
1024 Options for setting/clearings flags put into order, and
1025 #ifdef's removed (since we now use a built-in header
1026 file). Add error message if user tries to set and reset
1027 the same flag.
1028

1069
1070 * badblocks.c: Folded in patches David Beattie <dbeattie@usa.net>.
1071 Need to do cleanup before release: use of GCC extensions
1072 (dynamic arrays); unclean coding tricks (use of || instead
1073 of if statements, etc.). Comments from David Beattie:
1074
1075 "I added non-destructive write-testing, and quite a few
1076 other features. The non-destructive write testing,
1077 triggered by new "-n" command-line option, will write test
1078 patterns to the disk, but only after reading data off the
1079 disk into memory. Then, comparing the test patterns gives
1080 a result as to whether or not those sectors are reliable.
1081 Finally, the original data is written back.
1082
1083 To streamline this operation, I added another option, "-c
1084 blocks_at_once", which will give the number of disk blocks
1085 to process at one time (mnemonic--"count"). I made this
1086 default to 16 (as in the read-only testing mode), and also
1087 affect the read-only testing mode. Of course, read-only
1088 mode needs (count * block_size) amount of memory, and
1089 non-destructive read-write needs 3 times that much, so it
1090 makes sense to do the calculations and not overrun
1091 available RAM...I would have liked to implement and
1092 auto-memory-usage heuristic, but I have no idea if it's
1093 even possible to determine the amount of free memory on a
1094 Unix system except by reading /proc entries, and that
1095 didn't seem portable. I did NOT make this blocks_at_once
1096 affect the behavior of the test_rw routine, as it is
1097 processing the whole disk at once, anyway.
1098
1099 I *think* that I got higher detection rates on my hard
1100 drive using random test data than patterned test data, so
1101 my non-destructive mode initializes its test data buffer
1102 randomly.
1103
1104 I fixed a typo in flush_bufs that caused the ioctl
1105 BLKFLSBUF to never get compiled into the program.
1106
1107 Also, I added an "undocumented" (I didn't put it into the
1108 usage message; you can if you think it's useful) "-h"
1109 option to specify the host device to flush--useful if you
1110 want to test out my "non-destructive" code on something
1111 other than a hard drive, such as a file on a hard drive,
1112 and want the host hard drive to flush.
1113
1114 I provided support for an "input" file (via option "-i",
1115 similar to the "-o" option)...containing a list of
1116 already-known bad blocks; it will skip testing those
1117 blocks, thus adding speed to the bad block scan (on my
1118 computer, hitting a physically bad block causes a
1119 half-second-or-more freeze as the kernel waits for the
1120 hard drive to give up and reset itself; pretty annoying
1121 when you already know the block is bad from a previous
1122 scan).
1123
1124 Finally, the real killer, the persistent re-scan (option:
1125 "-p num_passes") that I created will, if desired,
1126 persistently re-scan the drive until it has completed a
1127 user-decidable number of passes in a row during which no
1128 new bad blocks are found. On my drive, I would see
1129 behavior that a certain percentage of bad blocks would be
1130 found with each pass (it was not reliable in the defective
1131 areas!), so I wanted it to check it over and over again
1132 until it didn't find any more, several times. Perhaps
1133 this will be useful to others. Defaults of course to
1134 zero, meaning it will stop after the first pass. I used
1135 "-p 2" on my drive, and it ran for 2 1/2 days...then used
1136 "-p 3" a couple days later and it ran for a few more
1137 hours, and since then the rest of my drive has been
1138 completely reliable.
1139
1140 Implementation of these last two features, "-i" and "-p",
1141 I did using a bb_list from libext2fs. I debated whether
1142 bad blocks input through "-i" should be output into the
1143 "-o" file (or stdout, of course), and decided against it,
1144 but left the code to do so in place, commented out, just
1145 for your information.
1146
1147 In order to maintain data integrity upon interruption of a
1148 non-destructive-write test, I created a signal handler
1149 which I install which will write back whatever original
1150 disk data is in the buffers upon any of the fatal signals
1151 (except SIGKILL, of course).
1152
1153 Of course, ideally, the new options would be reflected in
1154 the badblocks manual page, but I am not experienced at
1155 manual page modification; if you decide my patch to
1156 badblocks should be incorporated into the distribution, I
1157 could learn how to update the manpage and other
1158 documentation, or you could do it for me after exercising
1159 your opinions, if you have any, on exactly what the
1160 command-line parameters should be called and which ones
1161 should be in the distribution."

1773 * mke2fs.c: Added support for the -o option, which overrides the
1774 creator OS. Generate a UUID for the filesystem, if
1775 applicable. Added support for the -L option which sets
1776 the volume label, and the -M option which sets the last
1777 mounted directory.
1778
1779Sat Jun 22 17:43:17 1996 Remy Card <card@bbj.linux.eu.org>
1780
1781 * chattr.c (decode_arg): Integrated Michael Nonweiler's fix to
1782 avoid a segmentation fault when the "-v" option is used
1783 and no version number is specified.
1784
Theodore Ts'o62c06f71997-04-29 14:34:47 +00001785Thu May 16 11:12:30 1996 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1786
1787 * Release of E2fsprogs version 1.04
1788
1789Wed May 15 21:15:43 1996 Theodore Ts'o <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1790
1791 * Makefile.in (fsck): fsck doesn't need to be linked with the ext2
1792 libraries.
1793
Theodore Ts'o7f88b041997-04-26 14:48:50 +00001794Wed Mar 27 00:33:40 1996 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1795
1796 * Release of E2fsprogs version 1.03
1797
1798Thu Mar 7 03:43:20 1996 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1799
1800 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Add (for development only) support to
1801 specify revision and inode size of the new filesystem.
1802
1803Tue Mar 5 03:51:35 1996 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1804
1805 * mke2fs.8.in: Fix a few minor typo's in the man page.
1806
1807 * mke2fs.c (reserve_inodes): Add support for dynamic first inode
1808 revision.
1809
1810Mon Feb 5 22:19:49 1996 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1811
1812 * fsck.c (check_all, PRS): Added new flag -P, which turns on the
1813 parallel root option. This allows you to check the root
1814 filesystem in parallel with the other filesystems. Note
1815 that this is not the safest thing in the world to do,
1816 since if the root filesystem is in doubt things like
1817 the e2fsck executable might be corrupted! But some
1818 sysadmins, who don't want to repartition the root
1819 filesystem to be small and compact, may really want this
1820 option turned on.
1821
Theodore Ts'o74becf31997-04-26 14:37:06 +00001822Wed Jan 31 11:06:08 1996 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1823
1824 * Release of E2fsprogs version 1.02
1825
1826Tue Oct 30 21:14:12 1995 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1827
1828 * mke2fs.c (check_plausibility): Add check to warn user if they
1829 are trying to mke2fs the whole disk. (/dev/hda
1830 vs. /dev/hda1)
1831
1832Fri Dec 15 19:09:56 1995 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1833
1834 * fsck.c (check_all): If we break out of the loop because we are
1835 serializing and have just started at fsck we haven't
1836 finished the pass. We need to go round again in case there
1837 are more filesystems to be done in this pass. (Patch
1838 submitted by Mike Jagdis)
1839
1840Sat Dec 9 10:07:16 1995 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1841
1842 * dumpe2fs.c (in_use): test_bit() was renamed to
1843 ext2fs_test_bit().
1844
Theodore Ts'o297f47a1997-04-26 14:25:20 +00001845Mon Oct 30 20:21:18 1995 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1846
1847 * fsck.c (fsck_device): Check fstype instead of type; this was a
1848 stupid typo which caused coredumps in some cases.
1849
Theodore Ts'oa418d3a1997-04-26 14:00:26 +00001850Thu Oct 26 12:05:18 1995 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1851
1852 * Makefile.in (install): Strip programs when they are installed.
1853
1854Fri Aug 18 15:10:40 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@dcl>
1855
1856 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Move call of check_mount() from main() to PRS(),
1857 so we do the check to see if the filesystem is mounted
1858 *before* we try to determine the size of the device.
1859
1860Wed Sep 6 23:34:07 1995 Remy Card <card@bbj>
1861
1862 * fsck.c (load_fs_info): Load the informations from /etc/fstab in
1863 the same order.
1864
1865Thu Aug 17 22:33:09 1995 <tytso@rsts-11.mit.edu>
1866
1867 * mke2fs.c (check_mount): Use the new ext2fs_check_if_mounted()
1868 function to determine if the device is mounted.
1869
1870 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Change call to use the new
1871 ext2fs_get_device_size() function in order to determine
1872 the size of the filesystem. Remove get_size() and
1873 is_valid_offset(), which are no longer called.
1874
1875Fri Aug 11 08:26:24 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@lurch.mit.edu>
1876
1877 * fsck.c (fsck_device): Make sure fstype has been set by the user
1878 and that it does not begin with "no" and the user has
1879 specified exactly one type before using it as the type to
1880 check.
1881
1882Fri Aug 11 14:17:18 1995 Remy Card <card@bbj>
1883
1884 * badblocks.8:
1885 * chattr.1:
1886 * dumpe2fs.8:
1887 * fsck.8:
1888 * lsattr.1:
1889 * mke2fs.8:
1890 * mklost+found.8:
1891 * tune2fs.8: Updated date and version number.
1892
1893Thu Aug 10 14:18:36 1995 Remy Card <card@bbj>
1894
1895 * tune2fs.c: Fixed a bug which prevented the use of user and group
1896 names with the -g and -u options. Thanks to Jean Christophe
1897 ANDRE <progfou@mycrob.cafard.freenix.fr>.
1898
1899 * mke2fs.8:
1900 * tune2fs.8: Fixed a spelling error in Ted's name :-)
1901
1902Wed Aug 9 20:41:54 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@dcl>
1903
1904 * mke2fs.c (count_blocks): Divide the size by
1905 EXT2_BLOCK_SIZE(&param), instead of assuming that the
1906 blocksize is always 1024 bytes.
1907
1908Sat Aug 5 12:00:51 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@lurch.mit.edu>
1909
1910 * mke2fs.c (PRS): Use malloc() instead of alloca() --- alloca() is
1911 not portable!! In any case putenv() in some systems must
1912 take a static character array or malloc()'ed memory;
1913 passing memory allocated using alloca() to putenv() is not
1914 advisable.
1915
1916 * chattr.c (chattr_dir_proc):
1917 * lsattr.c (lsattr_dir_proc): Use malloc() instead of alloca() ---
1918 alloca is not portable!
1919
1920 * fsck.c (fsck_device): If the filesystem type is specified by the
1921 user using the -t option, let it override the type in
1922 /etc/fstab.
1923
1924 * fsck.c (strdup): Don't build strdup() if the system defines it.
1925
1926Mon Jun 12 19:15:10 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o (tytso@dcl)
1927
1928 * chattr.c, lsattr.c: Include <sys/types.h> for <dirent.h>'s
1929 benefit.
1930
1931 * The $(UPROGS) go in bin, not sbin.
1932
1933 * badblocks.c, chattr.c, dumpe2fs.c, fsck.c, lsattr.c, mke2fs.c,
1934 tune2fs.c: Don't include <getopt.h> if it doesn't exist.
1935
1936Mon Jun 12 16:36:04 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@dcl>
1937
1938 * badblocks.c, chattr.c, dumpe2fs.c, fsck.c, lsattr.c, mke2fs.c,
1939 tune2fs.c: Only include getopt.h if HAVE_GETOPT_H is defined.
1940
1941Sat Jun 10 23:37:09 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@lurch.mit.edu>
1942
1943 * chattr.c: Include errno.h, since we use errno
1944
1945 * fsck.c (load_fs_info): If HAVE_MNTENT_H is not defined,
1946 explicitly initialize filesys_info to be NULL.
1947
1948 * mke2fs.c: Include the stdio.h and errno.h header files
1949
1950Thu Jun 8 13:25:23 1995 Miles Bader <miles@churchy.gnu.ai.mit.edu>
1951
1952 * mke2fs.c: Only include <linux/fs.h> if we can.
1953 (get_size): Don't try to use the BLKGETSIZE ioctl unless it's defined.
1954 (check_mount): Only check to see if the device is mounted if
1955 HAVE_MNTENT_H is defined (by configure).
1956
1957 * fsck.c (load_fs_info): Only try to get info about filesystems if
1958 HAVE_MNTENT_H is defined (by configure).
1959 (main): Allocate space for a new fsck_path instead of append to a
1960 statically sized buffer.
1961 (PRS): Use alloca to allocate the new path string, instead of
1962 having a fixed size buffer (which was the wrong size anyway).
1963
1964 * chattr.c (chattr_dir_proc): Use alloca to allocate space for a
1965 filename instead of using a fixed-size buffer.
1966 * lsattr.c (lsattr_dir_proc): Ditto.
1967 * mklost+fond.c (main): Calculate the actual needed size for the
1968 path buffer instead of using MAXPATHLEN (which not all systems have).
1969
1970 * badblocks.c: Only include linux include files if we have them.
1971 (flush_bufs): New function to flush a block device, optionally
1972 syncing it first. This replaces other copies of this code.
1973 (test_ro): Replace calls to ioctl with flush_bufs().
1974 (test_rw): Ditto.
1975
1976 * Makefile.in: Rewritten to conform to GNU coding standards and
1977 support separate compilation directories.
1978
Theodore Ts'of3db3561997-04-26 13:34:30 +00001979Sat Mar 11 10:59:58 1995 Theodore Y. Ts'o <tytso@localhost>
1980
1981 * mke2fs.c (main, zap_bootblock): Added new function
1982 zap_bootblock() which clears the first 512 bytes of the
1983 filesystem. This protects the filesystem from being
1984 misidentified as a MS-DOS FAT filesystem.
1985
1986 * badblocks.c (alarm_intr, test_ro, test_rw): Increase the space
1987 allocated for printing the block numbers, so that the
1988 display doesn't get corrupted when running badblocks on a
1989 very large partition.
1990
1991 * badblocks.c (do_test, test_ro, test_rw): Added missing cast to
1992 ext2_loff_t, so that when checking a large device,
1993 spurious seek errors aren't reported.
1994
1995 * mke2fs.c (count_blocks): Declare mid to be of type ext2_loff_t
1996 instead of type int, so that it works for filesystems
1997 greater than 2 GB. (Fortunately count_blocks is only
1998 called if the device does not support the BLKGETSIZE
1999 ioctl, which most do.)
2000
2001 * fsck.c (ignore): Add check to ignore filesystems with a pass
2002 number of zero. (This check was accidentally deleted at
2003 during 0.5b development.)
2004
2005Sat Dec 31 00:47:16 1994 <tytso@rsx-11.mit.edu>
2006
2007 * mke2fs.c (new_table_block, alloc_tables, PRS, main): Add a new
2008 option, -S, which only writes the superblock and group
2009 descriptors. Useful for recovering when all of the
2010 superblocks are corrupted somehow (as a last ditch
2011 measure).
2012
2013 Also, don't bother initializing the bitmap blocks in
2014 alloc_tables(), since they will be overwritten at the end
2015 anyway. (Should speed up mke2fs by a little.)
2016
2017Tue Dec 6 02:20:55 1994 <tytso@rsx-11.mit.edu>
2018
2019 * fsck.c (main): Fix stupid typo where a null inst would be freed.
2020
2021 * fsck.c (wait_one): Check WIFEXITED on status before trying to
2022 extract the exit status. In other cases, return
2023 FSCK_ERROR if the back end processor exited with a signal.
2024
2025Tue Nov 15 10:20:00 1994 Remy Card <card@bbj>
2026
2027 * tune2fs.c (main): Fixed a bug which prevented the use of the
2028 new options.
2029 Added the `w' (week) suffix recognition in the check interval.
2030
2031Sun Nov 13 15:58:48 1994 (tytso@rsx-11)
2032
2033 * fsck.c (load_fs_info): If the user has an obviously old
2034 /etc/fstab file, issue a warning message and assume that
2035 all partitions should be checked.
2036
2037Sat Nov 12 00:33:18 1994 (tytso@rsx-11)
2038
2039 * dumpe2fs.c (list_desc): Update to new inode and block bitmap
2040 structures.
2041
2042 * mke2fs.c (create_root_dir): Create the root directory owned by
2043 the effective uid.
2044
2045Mon Nov 7 22:04:37 1994 Remy Card <card@bbj>
2046
2047 * tune2fs.c (main.c): Added support for new options:
2048 -r reserved_blocks_count, -g reserved_gid, -u reserved_uid.
2049
2050Sun Aug 21 00:57:33 1994 Theodore Y. Ts'o (tytso@rt-11)
2051
2052 * fsck.c (ignore): If the pass number is 0, ignore the filesystem.
2053
2054Wed Aug 17 21:55:03 1994 Remy Card (card@bbj)
2055
2056 * badblocks.c (test_rw): Added verbose output like in the
2057 read-only test.
2058
2059 (do_test and test_rw): Use the llseek system call if available.
2060
2061 * chattr.c: Added support for new attributes.
2062
2063 * lsattr.c: Added support for long format.
2064
2065 * mke2fs.c (usage): Fixed bogus usage message.
2066
2067 (valid_offset): Use the llseek system call if available.
2068
2069Wed Aug 17 10:50:57 1994 Theodore Y. Ts'o (tytso@rt-11)
2070
2071 * mke2fs.c (handle_bad_blocks): Check to see if a bad block is
2072 where a backup superblock/group descriptor is stored. If so,
2073 print a warning message and adjust the superblock counts so that
2074 they are correct. (Otherwise, the bad block will get counted
2075 twice and the # of free blocks count will be wrong.)
2076
2077 (alloc_tables): Removed code which calcualated the free block
2078 statistics, which was moved to lib/ext2fs/initialize.c. This
2079 allows the bad block code to adjust the group descriptor
2080 statistics if necessary.
