11
12Core and Builtins
13-----------------
14
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +000015- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
16 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
17 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
18 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
19 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
20 type object.
21
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +000022- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
23
24- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
25
26- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
27
28- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
29
Christian Heimesfb1813c2008-08-22 19:34:15 +000030- Issue #3642: Changed type of numarenas from uint to size_t
31 in order to silence a compilier warning on 64bit OSes.
32
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +000033- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
34 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
35
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +000036- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
37 ``__delslice__``.
38
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +000039C-API
40-----
41
42- Aliased PyObject_Bytes to PyObject_Str.
43
Barry Warsaw6a0b5592008-08-21 02:12:56 +000044Library
45-------
46
Christian Heimesa27a62e2008-08-22 19:55:54 +000047- Silenced a trivial compiler warning in the sqlite module.
48
Christian Heimes1cc69632008-08-22 20:10:27 +000049- Fixed two format strings in the _collections module.
50
Benjamin Peterson37346b22008-08-23 20:27:43 +000051Extension Modules
52-----------------
53
54- Issue #3643: Added a few more checks to _testcapi to prevent segfaults by
55 exploitation of poor argument checking.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000062
63Core and Builtins
64-----------------
65
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +000066- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
67 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
68 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
69 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
70 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
71 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
72 default.
73
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +000074- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
75 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
76
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +000077- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
78 value again.
79
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +000080- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
81 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
82 and introducing s*.
83
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +000084- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
85 object was stored in the freelist.
86
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +000087- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
88 ValueError consistently across platforms.
89
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +000090- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
91 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
92 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
93
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +000094- Apply security patches from Apple.
95
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +000096- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
97 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
98
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +000099- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
100 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
101
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000102- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
103 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
104 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
105
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000106- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
107 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
108 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
109 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
110 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
111 failed have been fixed.
112
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000113Library
114-------
115
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000116- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
117
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000118- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
119 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
120
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000121- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
122 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
123 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
124
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000125- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
126 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
127 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
128 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
129 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
130 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
131
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000132- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
133 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
134
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000135- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
136
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000137- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
138
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000139- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
140
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000141- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
142 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
143
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000144- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
145 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
146
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000147- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
148 in a redirect.
149
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000150- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000151 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000152
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000153- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
154 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
155
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000156- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
157 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
158 regular expression.
159
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000160- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
161 thread-safe.
162
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000163- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
164 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
165 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
166
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000167- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
168
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000169- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
170 menu entries were not deleted.
171
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000172- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
173 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
174
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000175- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
176 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
177
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000178- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
179 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
180 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
181
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000182- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
183 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
184 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
185
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000186- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
187 the reload() built-in has been removed.
188
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000189- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000190 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000191 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
192 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
193 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
194 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
195 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000196
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000197- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
198 raised an AttributeError.
199
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000200- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000201 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
202 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000203
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000204- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
205 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
206
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000207- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
208
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000209- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
210 on a closed shelf.
211
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000212- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
213
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000214- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
215
216- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
217 invalid arguments.
218
219- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
220 with None arguments.
221
222- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
223 configuration files.
224
225- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
226
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000227- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
228 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
229 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
230
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000231- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
232 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
233 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
234
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000235Build

Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000240Documentation
241-------------
242
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000243- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
244 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
245
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000246- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
247 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
248 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
249 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.
250

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000255*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
256
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000257Core and Builtins
258-----------------
259
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000260- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
261 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
262 an integer using operator.index().
263
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000264- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
265 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
266
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000267- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
268 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
269
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000270- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
271 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
272 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
273
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000274- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
275 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
276 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
277 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
278 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
279 level.
280
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000281- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
282 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
283 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
284 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
285 all imports from that module to fail.
286
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000287- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
288 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
289 new-style classes.
290
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000291- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
292 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
293 another file in sys.stdout.
294
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000295- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
296 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
297 another thread's dictionary.
298
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000299- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
300 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
301 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
302 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
303 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
304 10, -1).
305
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000306- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
307 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
308 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000309
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000310- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
311 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
312 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000313
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000314Library
315-------
316
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000317- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
318 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
319 error when they failed.
320
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000321- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
322
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000323- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
324

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000819- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
820 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
821 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where

897 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
898 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
899 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
900 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
901 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
902 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
903 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
904 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
905 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
906 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
907 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
908 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
909
910 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
911 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
912 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
913 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
914 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
915 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
916 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
917 access to the underlying socket used.
918
919 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
920 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
921 connect).

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001199 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001200
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001201- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1202
1203- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001204
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001205- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001206 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1207
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001208- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1209 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1210 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1211 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1212 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1213 module is:
1214 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1215
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001216- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1217 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1218 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1219 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1220 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1221 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1222
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001223- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1224 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1225 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1226 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1227 PyObject_Format().
1228
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001229- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1230 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1231 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001232
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001233- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001234 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001240- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1241 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1242 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001243
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001244- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1245 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1246 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001247
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001248- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1249 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1250

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001274- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1275 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1276 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001277

1279 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1280 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1281 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

2886-----
2887
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002888- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
2889 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
2890 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
2891 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00002892
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002893- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
2894 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
2895 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002896
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00002897- Added ``PySet_Check()`` and ``PyFrozenSet_Check()`` to the set API.

2900 and _FormatV from Python 3.0. Made PyLong_AsSsize_t and
2901 PyLong_FromSsize_t public functions.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002902
2903- Patch #1720595: add T_BOOL to the range of structmember types.
2904
2905- Issue #1534: Added ``PyFloat_GetMax()``, ``PyFloat_GetMin()`` and
2906 ``PyFloat_GetInfo()`` to the float API.
2907
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002908- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
2909 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
2910 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
2911 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002912
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002913- Issue #1629: Renamed Py_Size, Py_Type and Py_Refcnt to Py_SIZE,
2914 Py_TYPE and Py_REFCNT.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002915
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002916- PEP 3123: Provide forward compatibility with Python 3.0, while

2930
2931- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
2932 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
2933
2934- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
2935 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
2936
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002937- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do
2938 absolute imports. In earlier versions they might have used relative
2939 imports under some conditions.
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002940
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002941- Added case insensitive comparison methods ``PyOS_stricmp(char*,
2942 char*)`` and ``PyOS_strnicmp(char*, char*, Py_ssize_t)``.
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002943

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002969- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
