12Core and Builtins
13-----------------
14
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +000015- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
16 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
17 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
18 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
19 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
20 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
21 default.
22
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +000023- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
24 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
25
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +000026- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
27 value again.
28
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +000029- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
30 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
31 and introducing s*.
32
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +000033- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
34 object was stored in the freelist.
35
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +000036- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
37 ValueError consistently across platforms.
38
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +000039- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
40 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
41 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
42
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +000043- Apply security patches from Apple.
44
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +000045- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
46 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
47
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +000048- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
49 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
50
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +000051- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
52 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
53 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
54
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +000055- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
56 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
57 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
58 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
59 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
60 failed have been fixed.
61
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000062Library
63-------
64
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +000065- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
66
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +000067- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
68 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
69
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +000070- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
71 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
72 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
73
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +000074- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
75 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
76 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
77 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
78 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
79 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
80
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +000081- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
82 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
83
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +000084- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
85
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +000086- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
87
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +000088- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
89
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +000090- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
91 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
92
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +000093- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
94 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
95
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +000096- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
97 in a redirect.
98
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +000099- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000100 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000101
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000102- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
103 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
104
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000105- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
106 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
107 regular expression.
108
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000109- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
110 thread-safe.
111
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000112- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
113 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
114 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
115
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000116- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
117
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000118- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
119 menu entries were not deleted.
120
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000121- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
122 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
123
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000124- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
125 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
126
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000127- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
128 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
129 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
130
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000131- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
132 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
133 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
134
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000135- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
136 the reload() built-in has been removed.
137
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000138- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000139 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000140 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
141 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
142 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
143 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
144 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000145
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000146- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
147 raised an AttributeError.
148
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000149- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000150 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
151 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000152
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000153- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
154 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
155
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000156- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
157
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000158- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
159 on a closed shelf.
160
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000161- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
162
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000163- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
164
165- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
166 invalid arguments.
167
168- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
169 with None arguments.
170
171- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
172 configuration files.
173
174- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
175
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000176- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
177 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
178 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
179
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000180- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
181 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
182 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
183
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000184Build
185-----
186
187- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
188
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000189Documentation
190-------------
191
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000192- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
193 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
194
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000195- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
196 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
197 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
198 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000201What's New in Python 2.6 beta 2?
202================================
203
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000204*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
205
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000206Core and Builtins
207-----------------
208
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000209- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
210 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
211 an integer using operator.index().
212
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000213- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
214 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
215
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000216- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
217 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
218
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000219- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
220 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
221 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
222
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000223- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
224 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
225 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
226 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
227 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
228 level.
229
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000230- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
231 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
232 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
233 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
234 all imports from that module to fail.
235
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000236- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
237 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
238 new-style classes.
239
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000240- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
241 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
242 another file in sys.stdout.
243
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000244- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
245 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
246 another thread's dictionary.
247
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000248- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
249 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
250 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
251 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
252 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
253 10, -1).
254
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000255- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
256 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
257 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000258
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000259- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
260 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
261 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000262
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000263Library
264-------
265
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000266- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
267 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
268 error when they failed.
269
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000270- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
271
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000272- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
273
Georg Brandla24869a2008-07-16 22:33:18 +0000274- Issue #3312: Fix two crashes in sqlite3.
275
Georg Brandl86cbf812008-07-16 21:31:41 +0000276- Issue #1608818: Fix misbehavior in os.listdir() if readdir() fails.
277
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000278- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
279 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
280
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000281- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000282
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000283- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
284 a valid dlerror() message.
285
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000286- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
287 incomplete structure was created.
288
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000289- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
290
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000291- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
292
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000293- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000294
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000295- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
296 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000297 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000298 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
299 merged into trunk.
300
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +0000301- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().
302
Martin v. Löwis8c436412008-07-03 12:51:14 +0000303- Issue #1622: Correct interpretation of various ZIP header fields.
304
305- Issue #1526: Allow more than 64k files to be added to Zip64 file.
306

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000768- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
769 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
770 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
771 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
772 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
773 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
774 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
775 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000838- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
839 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
840 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
841 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
842 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
843 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
844 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
845 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
846 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
847 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
848 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
849 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
850 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
851 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
852 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
853 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
854 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
855 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
856 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
857 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
858
859 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
860 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
861 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
862 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
863 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
864 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
865 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
866 access to the underlying socket used.
867
868 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
869 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
870 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000871
872 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000873 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

876

1144Core and builtins
1145-----------------
1146
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001147- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001148 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001149
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001150- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1151
1152- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001153
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001154- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001155 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1156
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001157- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1158 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1159 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1160 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1161 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1162 module is:
1163 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1164
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001165- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1166 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1167 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1168 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1169 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1170 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1171
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001172- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1173 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1174 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1175 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1176 PyObject_Format().
1177
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001178- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1179 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1180 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001181
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001182- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001183 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1184 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +00001185
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001186- Fixed repr() and str() of complex numbers with infinity or nan as
1187 real or imaginary part.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001189- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1190 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1191 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001192
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001193- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1194 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1195 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001196
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001197- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1198 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1199
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001200- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1201 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001202
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001203- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API
1204 functions ``PyInt_CompactFreeList`` and ``PyFloat_CompactFreeList``

1208 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1209 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001210
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001211- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001223- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1224 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1225 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001226
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001227- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1228 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1229 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1230 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001231

1340 from C code. Nor did object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str
1341 could do something that could lead to an inifinite recursion.
1342 Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(), respectively, fixed the

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001411- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1412 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1413 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1414 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1415 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001416 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
