146-----------------
147
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000148- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
149
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000150- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
151 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
152 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
153 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
154 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
155 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
156 64bit values.
157
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000158- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
159 error.
160
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000161- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
162 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
163 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
164 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
165
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000166- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
167 a unicode argument.
168

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000172 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000173 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
174
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000175- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000176 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
177 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
178 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
179 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
180 type object.
181
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000182- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
183
184- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
185
186- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
187
188- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
189
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000190- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
191 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
192
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000193- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
194 ``__delslice__``.
195
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000196- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared

198
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000199- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
200 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
201 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
202
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +0000203C-API

209-------
210
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000211- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce

220 with statements, or when the methods are invoked in the wrong order.

321Core and Builtins
322-----------------
323
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000324- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
325 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
326 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
327 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
328 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
329 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
330 default.
331
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000332- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
333 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
334
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000335- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
336 value again.
337
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000338- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
339 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
340 and introducing s*.
341
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000342- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
343 object was stored in the freelist.
344
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000345- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
346 ValueError consistently across platforms.
347
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000348- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
349 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
350 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
351
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000352- Apply security patches from Apple.
353
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000354- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
355 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
356
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000357- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
358 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
359
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000360- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
361 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
362 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
363
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000364- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
365 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
366 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
367 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
368 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
369 failed have been fixed.
370
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000371Library
372-------
373
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000374- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
375
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000376- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
377 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
378
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000379- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
380 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
381 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
382
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000383- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
384 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
385 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
386 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
387 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
388 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
389
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000390- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
391 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
392
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000393- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
394
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000395- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
396
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000397- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
398
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000399- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
400 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
401
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000402- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
403 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
404
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000405- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
406 in a redirect.
407
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000408- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000409 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000410
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000411- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
412 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
413
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000414- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
415 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
416 regular expression.
417
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000418- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
419 thread-safe.
420
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000421- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
422 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
423 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
424
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000425- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
426
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000427- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
428 menu entries were not deleted.
429
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000430- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
431 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
432
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000433- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
434 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
435
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000436- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
437 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
438 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
439
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000440- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
441 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
442 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
443
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000444- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
445 the reload() built-in has been removed.
446
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000447- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000448 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000449 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
450 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
451 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
452 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
453 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000454
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000455- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
456 raised an AttributeError.
457
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000458- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000459 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
460 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000461
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000462- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
463 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
464
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000465- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
466
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000467- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
468 on a closed shelf.
469
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000470- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
471
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000472- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
473
474- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
475 invalid arguments.
476
477- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
478 with None arguments.
479
480- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
481 configuration files.
482
483- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
484
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000485- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
486 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
487 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
488
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000489- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
490 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
491 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
492
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000493Build
494-----
495
496- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
497
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000498Documentation
499-------------
500
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000501- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
502 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
503
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000504- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
505 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
506 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
507 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

514
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000515Core and Builtins
516-----------------
517
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000518- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
519 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
520 an integer using operator.index().
521
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000522- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
523 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
524
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000525- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
526 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
527
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000528- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
529 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
530 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
531
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000532- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
533 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
534 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
535 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
536 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
537 level.
538
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000539- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
540 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
541 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
542 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
543 all imports from that module to fail.
544
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000545- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
546 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
547 new-style classes.
548
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000549- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
550 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
551 another file in sys.stdout.
552
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000553- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
554 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
555 another thread's dictionary.
556
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000557- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
558 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
559 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
560 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
561 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
562 10, -1).
563
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000564- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
565 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
566 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000567
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000568- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
569 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
570 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000571

Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000575- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
576 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
577 error when they failed.
578
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000579- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

589
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000590- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000591
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000592- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
593 a valid dlerror() message.
594
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000595- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
596 incomplete structure was created.
597
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000598- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
599
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000600- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
601
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000602- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000603
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000604- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
605 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000606 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000607 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
608 merged into trunk.
609
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +0000610- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().
611
Martin v. Löwis8c436412008-07-03 12:51:14 +0000612- Issue #1622: Correct interpretation of various ZIP header fields.
613
614- Issue #1526: Allow more than 64k files to be added to Zip64 file.
615
616- Issue #1746: Correct handling of zipfile archive comments (previously
617 archives with comments over 4k were flagged as invalid). Allow writing
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000618 Zip files with archives by setting the 'comment' attribute of a ZipFile.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001078- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1079 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1080 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1081 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1082 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1083 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1084 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001148- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1149 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1150 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1151 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1152 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1153 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1154 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1155 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1156 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1157 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1158 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1159 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1160 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1161 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1162 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1163 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1164 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1165 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1166 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1167 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1168
1169 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1170 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1171 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1172 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1173 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1174 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1175 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1176 access to the underlying socket used.
1177
1178 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1179 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1180 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001181

1455-----------------
1456
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001457- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001458 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001459
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001460- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1461
1462- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001463
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001464- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001465 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1466
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001467- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1468 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1469 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1470 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1471 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1472 module is:
1473 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1474
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001475- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1476 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1477 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1478 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1479 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1480 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1481
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001482- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1483 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1484 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1485 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1486 PyObject_Format().
1487
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001488- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1489 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1490 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001491
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001492- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001493 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1494 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +00001495
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001496- Fixed repr() and str() of complex numbers with infinity or nan as
1497 real or imaginary part.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001499- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1500 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1501 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001502
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001503- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1504 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1505 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001506
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001507- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1508 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1509
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001510- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1511 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001512
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001513- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API

1518 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1519 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001520
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001521- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001533- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1534 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1535 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001536

1538 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1539 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1540 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001541

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001721- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1722 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1723 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1724 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1725 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001726 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
