26 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
27
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc00c94ed2008-10-07 20:40:09 +000028- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
29 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
30 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
31 it correctly refers to the initial element.

131- Issue #3850: recursion tests in Misc/find_recursion_limit.py can raise

149-----------------
150
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000151- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
152
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000153- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
154 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
155 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
156 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
157 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
158 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
159 64bit values.
160
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000161- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
162 error.
163
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000164- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
165 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
166 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
167 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
168
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000169- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
170 a unicode argument.
171
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000172- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.
173
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000174- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000175 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000176 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
177
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000178- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000179 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
180 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
181 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
182 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
183 type object.
184
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000185- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
186
187- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
188
189- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
190
191- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
192
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000193- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
194 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
195
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000196- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
197 ``__delslice__``.
198
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000199- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
200 library targets in the Makefile.
201
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000202- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
203 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
204 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
205
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +0000206C-API

212-------
213
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000214- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce

Nick Coghland2e09382008-09-11 12:11:06 +0000221- Issue #3781: Further warnings.catch_warnings() cleanup to prevent
222 silent misbehaviour when a single instance is nested in multiple
223 with statements, or when the methods are invoked in the wrong order.

324Core and Builtins
325-----------------
326
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000327- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
328 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
329 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
330 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
331 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
332 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
333 default.
334
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000335- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
336 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
337
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000338- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
339 value again.
340
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000341- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
342 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
343 and introducing s*.
344
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000345- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
346 object was stored in the freelist.
347
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000348- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
349 ValueError consistently across platforms.
350
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000351- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
352 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
353 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
354
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000355- Apply security patches from Apple.
356
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000357- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
358 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
359
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000360- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
361 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
362
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000363- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
364 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
365 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
366
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000367- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
368 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
369 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
370 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
371 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
372 failed have been fixed.
373
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000374Library
375-------
376
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000377- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
378
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000379- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
380 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
381
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000382- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
383 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
384 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
385
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000386- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
387 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
388 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
389 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
390 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
391 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
392
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000393- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
394 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
395
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000396- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
397
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000398- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
399
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000400- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
401
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000402- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
403 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
404
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000405- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
406 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
407
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000408- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
409 in a redirect.
410
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000411- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000412 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000413
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000414- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
415 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
416
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000417- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
418 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
419 regular expression.
420
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000421- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
422 thread-safe.
423
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000424- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
425 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
426 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
427
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000428- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
429
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000430- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
431 menu entries were not deleted.
432
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000433- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
434 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
435
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000436- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
437 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
438
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000439- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
440 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
441 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
442
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000443- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
444 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
445 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
446
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000447- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
448 the reload() built-in has been removed.
449
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000450- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000451 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000452 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
453 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
454 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
455 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
456 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000457
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000458- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
459 raised an AttributeError.
460
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000461- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000462 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
463 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000464
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000465- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
466 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
467
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000468- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
469
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000470- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
471 on a closed shelf.
472
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000473- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
474
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000475- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
476
477- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
478 invalid arguments.
479
480- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
481 with None arguments.
482
483- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
484 configuration files.
485
486- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
487
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000488- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
489 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
490 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
491
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000492- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
493 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
494 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
495
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000496Build
497-----
498
499- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
500
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000501Documentation
502-------------
503
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000504- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
505 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
506
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000507- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
508 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
509 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
510 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

517
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000518Core and Builtins
519-----------------
520
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000521- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
522 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
523 an integer using operator.index().
524
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000525- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
526 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
527
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000528- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
529 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
530
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000531- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
532 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
533 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
534
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000535- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
536 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
537 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
538 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
539 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
540 level.
541
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000542- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
543 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
544 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
545 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
546 all imports from that module to fail.
547
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000548- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
549 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
550 new-style classes.
551
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000552- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
553 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
554 another file in sys.stdout.
555
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000556- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
557 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
558 another thread's dictionary.
559
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000560- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
561 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
562 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
563 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
564 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
565 10, -1).
566
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000567- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
568 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
569 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000570
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000571- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
572 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
573 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000574

576-------
577
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000578- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
579 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
580 error when they failed.
581
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000582- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
583

589
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000590- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with

592
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000593- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000594
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000595- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
596 a valid dlerror() message.
597
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000598- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
599 incomplete structure was created.
600
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000601- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
602
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000603- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
604
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000605- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000606
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000607- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
608 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000609 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000610 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
611 merged into trunk.
612
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +0000613- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().
614
Martin v. Löwis8c436412008-07-03 12:51:14 +0000615- Issue #1622: Correct interpretation of various ZIP header fields.
616
617- Issue #1526: Allow more than 64k files to be added to Zip64 file.
618
619- Issue #1746: Correct handling of zipfile archive comments (previously
620 archives with comments over 4k were flagged as invalid). Allow writing

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001081- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1082 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1083 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1084 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1085 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1086 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1087 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
1088 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001151- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1152 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1153 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1154 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1155 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1156 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1157 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1158 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1159 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1160 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1161 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1162 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1163 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1164 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1165 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1166 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1167 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1168 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1169 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1170 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1171
1172 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1173 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1174 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1175 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1176 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1177 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1178 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1179 access to the underlying socket used.
1180
1181 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1182 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1183 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001184
1185 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:

1458-----------------
1459
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001460- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001461 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001462
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001463- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1464
1465- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001466
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001467- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001468 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1469
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001470- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1471 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1472 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1473 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1474 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1475 module is:
1476 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1477
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001478- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1479 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1480 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1481 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1482 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1483 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1484
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001485- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1486 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1487 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1488 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1489 PyObject_Format().
1490
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001491- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1492 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1493 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001494
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001495- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001496 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1497 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +00001498

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001502- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1503 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1504 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001505
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001506- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1507 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1508 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001509
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001510- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1511 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1512
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001513- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1514 entries each.

1521 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1522 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001523

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001536- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1537 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1538 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001539

1541 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1542 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1543 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001544

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001702 "except E as target:". This is to provide forwards compatibility
1703 with Python 3.0.
Collin Winter62903052007-05-18 23:11:24 +00001704
Brett Cannon229cee22007-05-05 01:34:02 +00001705- Deprecate BaseException.message as per PEP 352.
1706
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001707- Issue #1303614: don't expose object's __dict__ when the dict is

1723
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001724- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1725 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1726 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1727 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1728 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001729 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
1730 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001731
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001732- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an
1733 object to complex using its __complex__() method before falling back
1734 to the __float__() method. Therefore, the functions in the cmath
1735 module now can operate on objects that define a __complex__()
1736 method.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001758 its argument, if it exists. If not, it will work like before. This
1759 allows customizing the output of dir() in the presence of a

1770 raising a ValueError.
Collin Wintere38051d2007-03-09 20:33:07 +00001771
Georg Brandlaa2321b2007-03-07 00:40:28 +00001772- Patch #703779: unset __file__ in __main__ after running a file. This
