39
Hirokazu Yamamoto2c66b7c2008-10-09 18:06:58 +000040- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
41 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
42 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)

199-----------------
200
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000201- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
202
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000203- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
204 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
205 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
206 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
207 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
208 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
209 64bit values.
210
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000211- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
212 error.
213
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000214- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
215 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
216 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
217 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
218
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000219- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
220 a unicode argument.
221
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000222- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.
223
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000224- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000225 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000226 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
227
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000228- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000229 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
230 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
231 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
232 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
233 type object.
234
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000235- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
236
237- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
238
239- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
240
241- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
242
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000243- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
244 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
245
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000246- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
247 ``__delslice__``.
248
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000249- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
250 library targets in the Makefile.
251
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000252- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
253 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
254 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
255

374Core and Builtins
375-----------------
376
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000377- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
378 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
379 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
380 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
381 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
382 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
383 default.
384
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000385- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
386 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
387
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000388- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
389 value again.
390
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000391- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
392 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
393 and introducing s*.
394
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000395- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
396 object was stored in the freelist.
397
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000398- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
399 ValueError consistently across platforms.
400
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000401- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
402 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
403 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
404
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000405- Apply security patches from Apple.
406
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000407- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
408 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
409
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000410- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
411 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
412
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000413- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
414 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
415 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
416
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000417- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
418 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
419 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
420 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
421 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
422 failed have been fixed.
423
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000424Library
425-------
426
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000427- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
428
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000429- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
430 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
431
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000432- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
433 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
434 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
435
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000436- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
437 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
438 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
439 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
440 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
441 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
442
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000443- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
444 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
445
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000446- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
447
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000448- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
449
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000450- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
451
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000452- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
453 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
454
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000455- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
456 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
457
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000458- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
459 in a redirect.
460
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000461- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000462 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000463
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000464- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
465 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
466
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000467- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
468 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
469 regular expression.
470
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000471- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
472 thread-safe.
473
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000474- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
475 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
476 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
477
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000478- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
479
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000480- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
481 menu entries were not deleted.
482
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000483- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
484 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
485
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000486- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
487 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
488
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000489- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
490 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
491 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
492
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000493- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
494 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
495 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
496
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000497- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
498 the reload() built-in has been removed.
499
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000500- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000501 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000502 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
503 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
504 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
505 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
506 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000507
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000508- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
509 raised an AttributeError.
510
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000511- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000512 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
513 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000514
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000515- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
516 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.

524
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000525- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
526

528 invalid arguments.
529
530- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
531 with None arguments.
532
533- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
534 configuration files.
535
536- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
537
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000538- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
539 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
540 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
541
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000542- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
543 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
544 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

553
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000554- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
555 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
556
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000557- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
558 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
559 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
560 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

567
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000568Core and Builtins
569-----------------
570
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000571- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
572 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
573 an integer using operator.index().
574
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000575- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
576 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
577
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000578- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
579 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
580
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000581- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
582 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
583 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
584
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000585- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
586 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
587 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
588 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
589 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
590 level.
591
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000592- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
593 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
594 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
595 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
596 all imports from that module to fail.
597
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000598- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
599 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
600 new-style classes.
601
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000602- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
603 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
604 another file in sys.stdout.
605
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000606- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
607 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
608 another thread's dictionary.
609
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000610- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
611 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
612 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
613 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
614 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
615 10, -1).
616
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000617- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
618 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
619 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001131- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1132 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1133 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1134 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1135 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1136 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1137 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +00001184- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
1185 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
1186 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
1187 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
1188
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +00001189- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
1190 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
1191 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
1192
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001193- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available,
1194 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
1195 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
1196 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001201- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1202 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1203 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1204 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1205 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1206 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1207 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1208 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1209 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1210 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1211 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1212 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1213 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1214 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1215 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1216 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1217 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1218 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1219 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1220 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1221
1222 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1223 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1224 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1225 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1226 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1227 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1228 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1229 access to the underlying socket used.
1230
1231 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1232 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1233 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001234
1235 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001236 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1238 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1239
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001240 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1241 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001513- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1514
1515- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001516
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001517- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001518 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1519
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001520- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1521 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1522 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1523 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1524 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1525 module is:
1526 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1527
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001528- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1529 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1530 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1531 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1532 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1533 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1534
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001535- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1536 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1537 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1538 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1539 PyObject_Format().
1540
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001541- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1542 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1543 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001544
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001545- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001552- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1553 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1554 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001555
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001556- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1557 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1558 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001559
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001560- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1561 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1562
