289 issued when input echo cannot be controlled.

Mark Hammond495cf992008-04-07 01:53:39 +0000305 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
306 build documentation for more information.

309 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
310 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
311 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
312
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +0000313- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released

318 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
319 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
320 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000325- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
326 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
327 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
328 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
329 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
330 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
331 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
332 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
333 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
334 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
335 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
336 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
337 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
338 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
339 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
340 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
341 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
342 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
343 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
344 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
345
346 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
347 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
348 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
349 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
350 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
351 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
352 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
353 access to the underlying socket used.
354
355 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
356 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
357 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000358
359 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000360 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000361 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
362 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
363
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000364 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
365 suite to run in parallel without issue.

419
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000420- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000421 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
422 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the
423 'raw-unicode-escape' codec. Now UTF-16 surrogates are generated in
424 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +0000636 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000638- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
639
640- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000641
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000642- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000643 issue 215555 for a discussion.
644
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000645- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
646 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
647 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
648 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
649 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
650 module is:
651 from future_builtins import hex, oct
652
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000653- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
654 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
655 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
656 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
657 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
658 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
659
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000660- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
661 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
662 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
663 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
664 PyObject_Format().
665
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000666- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
667 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
668 state.

679 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000680
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000681- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
682 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
683 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000684
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000685- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
686 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
687
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000688- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

697 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000698
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000699- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

712 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
713 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000714

2326 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
2327 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
2328 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00002329

2331 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new

2346 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
2347 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
2348 incorrect results with huge strings.
