Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000055
56Core and Builtins
57-----------------
58
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +000059- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
60 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
61 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
62 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
63 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
64 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
65 default.
66
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +000067- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
68 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
69
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +000070- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
71 value again.
72
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +000073- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
74 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
75 and introducing s*.
76
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +000077- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
78 object was stored in the freelist.
79
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +000080- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
81 ValueError consistently across platforms.
82
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +000083- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
84 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
85 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
86
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +000087- Apply security patches from Apple.
88
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +000089- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
90 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
91
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +000092- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
93 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
94
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +000095- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
96 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
97 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
98
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +000099- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
100 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
101 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
102 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
103 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
104 failed have been fixed.
105
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000106Library
107-------
108
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000109- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
110
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000111- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
112 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
113
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000114- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
115 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
116 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
117
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000118- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
119 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
120 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
121 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
122 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
123 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
124
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000125- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
126 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
127
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000128- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
129
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000130- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
131
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000132- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
133
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000134- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
135 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
136
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000137- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
138 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
139
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000140- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
141 in a redirect.
142
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000143- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000144 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000145
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000146- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
147 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
148
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000149- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
150 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
151 regular expression.
152
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000153- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
154 thread-safe.
155
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000156- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
157 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
158 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
159
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000160- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
161
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000162- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
163 menu entries were not deleted.
164
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000165- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
166 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
167
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000168- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
169 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
170
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000171- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
172 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
173 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
174
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000175- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
176 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
177 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
178
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000179- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
180 the reload() built-in has been removed.
181
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000182- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000183 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000184 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
185 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
186 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
187 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
188 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000189
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000190- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
191 raised an AttributeError.
192
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000193- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000194 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
195 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000196
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000197- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
198 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
199
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000200- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
201
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000202- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
203 on a closed shelf.
204
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000205- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
206
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000207- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
208
209- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
210 invalid arguments.
211
212- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
213 with None arguments.
214
215- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
216 configuration files.
217
218- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
219
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000220- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
221 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
222 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
223
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000224- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
225 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
226 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
227

234-------------
235
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000236- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
237 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
238
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000239- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
240 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
241 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
242 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.
243

247
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000248*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
249
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000250Core and Builtins
251-----------------
252
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000253- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
254 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
255 an integer using operator.index().
256
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000257- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
258 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
259
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000260- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
261 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
262
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000263- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
264 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
265 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
266
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000267- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
268 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
269 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
270 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
271 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
272 level.
273
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000274- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
275 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
276 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
277 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
278 all imports from that module to fail.
279
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000280- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
281 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
282 new-style classes.
283
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000284- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
285 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
286 another file in sys.stdout.
287
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000288- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
289 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
290 another thread's dictionary.
291
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000292- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
293 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
294 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
295 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
296 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
297 10, -1).
298
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000299- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
300 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
301 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000302
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000303- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
304 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
305 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000306
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000307Library
308-------
309
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000310- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
311 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
312 error when they failed.
313
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000314- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
315
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000316- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
317
Georg Brandla24869a2008-07-16 22:33:18 +0000318- Issue #3312: Fix two crashes in sqlite3.
319
Georg Brandl86cbf812008-07-16 21:31:41 +0000320- Issue #1608818: Fix misbehavior in os.listdir() if readdir() fails.
321
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000322- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000812- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
813 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
814 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
815 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000882- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
883 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
884 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
885 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
886 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
887 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
888 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
889 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
890 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
891 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
892 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
893 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
894 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
895 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
896 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
897 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
898 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
899 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
900 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
901 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
902
903 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
904 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
905 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
906 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
907 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
908 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
909 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
910 access to the underlying socket used.
911
912 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
913 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
914 connect).

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001192 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001193
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001194- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1195
1196- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001197
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001198- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001199 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1200
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001201- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1202 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1203 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1204 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1205 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1206 module is:
1207 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1208
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001209- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1210 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1211 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1212 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1213 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1214 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1215
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001216- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1217 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1218 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1219 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1220 PyObject_Format().
1221
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001222- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1223 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1224 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001225
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001226- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001227 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001233- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1234 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1235 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001236
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001237- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1238 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1239 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001240
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001241- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1242 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1243
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001244- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1245 entries each.

1252 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1253 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001254
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001255- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001267- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1268 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1269 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001270
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001271- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1272 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1273 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1274 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001275

2879-----
2880
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002881- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
2882 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
2883 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
2884 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00002885
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002886- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
2887 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
2888 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002889
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00002890- Added ``PySet_Check()`` and ``PyFrozenSet_Check()`` to the set API.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002891
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002892- Backport of PyUnicode_FromString(), _FromStringAndSize(), _Format
2893 and _FormatV from Python 3.0. Made PyLong_AsSsize_t and
2894 PyLong_FromSsize_t public functions.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002895
2896- Patch #1720595: add T_BOOL to the range of structmember types.
2897
2898- Issue #1534: Added ``PyFloat_GetMax()``, ``PyFloat_GetMin()`` and
2899 ``PyFloat_GetInfo()`` to the float API.
2900
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002901- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
2902 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
2903 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
2904 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002905
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002906- Issue #1629: Renamed Py_Size, Py_Type and Py_Refcnt to Py_SIZE,
2907 Py_TYPE and Py_REFCNT.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002908
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002909- PEP 3123: Provide forward compatibility with Python 3.0, while
2910 keeping backwards compatibility. Add Py_Refcnt, Py_Type, Py_Size,
2911 and PyVarObject_HEAD_INIT.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002912
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002913- Py_ssize_t fields work in structmember when HAVE_LONG_LONG is not
2914 defined.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002915
2916- Patch #1733960: Allow T_LONGLONG to accept ints.
2917
2918- T_PYSSIZET can now be used in PyMemberDef lists for Py_ssize_t members.
2919
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002920- Added a new API function ``PyImport_ImportModuleNoBlock``.
2921
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002922- Bug #1637022: Prefix AST symbols with _Py_.
2923
2924- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
2925 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
2926
2927- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
2928 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
2929
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002930- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do
2931 absolute imports. In earlier versions they might have used relative
2932 imports under some conditions.
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002933
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002934- Added case insensitive comparison methods ``PyOS_stricmp(char*,
2935 char*)`` and ``PyOS_strnicmp(char*, char*, Py_ssize_t)``.
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002936
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002937- Bug #1542693: remove semi-colon at end of PyImport_ImportModuleEx

2945 requires Windows 2000 or greater. The _WINVER and NTDDI_VERSION
2946 macros are set to Win2k for x86/32bit builds and WinXP for AMD64
2947 builds.
Christian Heimes95d64472008-02-09 19:55:22 +00002948

2961
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002962- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
2963 This lead to the deprecation of macostools.touched() as it relied
2964 solely on macfs and was a no-op under OS X.
