Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000047
48Core and Builtins
49-----------------
50
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +000051- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
52 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
53 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
54 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
55 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
56 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
57 default.
58
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +000059- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
60 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
61
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +000062- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
63 value again.
64
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +000065- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
66 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
67 and introducing s*.
68
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +000069- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
70 object was stored in the freelist.
71
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +000072- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
73 ValueError consistently across platforms.
74
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +000075- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
76 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
77 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
78
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +000079- Apply security patches from Apple.
80
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +000081- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
82 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
83
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +000084- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
85 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
86
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +000087- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
88 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
89 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
90
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +000091- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
92 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
93 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
94 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
95 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
96 failed have been fixed.
97
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000098Library
99-------
100
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000101- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
102
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000103- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
104 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
105
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000106- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
107 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
108 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
109
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000110- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
111 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
112 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
113 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
114 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
115 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
116
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000117- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
118 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
119
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000120- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
121
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000122- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
123
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000124- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
125
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000126- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
127 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
128
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000129- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
130 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
131
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000132- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
133 in a redirect.
134
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000135- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000136 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000137
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000138- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
139 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
140
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000141- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
142 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
143 regular expression.
144
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000145- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
146 thread-safe.
147
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000148- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
149 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
150 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
151
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000152- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
153
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000154- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
155 menu entries were not deleted.
156
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000157- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
158 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
159
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000160- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
161 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
162
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000163- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
164 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
165 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
166
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000167- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
168 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
169 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
170
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000171- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
172 the reload() built-in has been removed.
173
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000174- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000175 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000176 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
177 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
178 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
179 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
180 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000181
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000182- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
183 raised an AttributeError.
184
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000185- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000186 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
187 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000188
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000189- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
190 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
191
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000192- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
193
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000194- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
195 on a closed shelf.
196

198
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000199- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
200

202 invalid arguments.
203
204- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
205 with None arguments.
206
207- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
208 configuration files.
209
210- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
211
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000212- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
213 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
214 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
215
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000216- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
217 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
218 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

226-------------
227
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000228- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
229 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
230
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000231- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
232 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
233 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
234 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

239
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000240*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
241
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000242Core and Builtins
243-----------------
244
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000245- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
246 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
247 an integer using operator.index().
248
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000249- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
250 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
251
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000252- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
253 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
254
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000255- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
256 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
257 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
258
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000259- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
260 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
261 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
262 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
263 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
264 level.
265
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000266- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
267 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
268 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
269 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
270 all imports from that module to fail.
271
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000272- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
273 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
274 new-style classes.
275
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000276- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
277 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
278 another file in sys.stdout.
279
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000280- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
281 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
282 another thread's dictionary.
283
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000284- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
285 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
286 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
287 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
288 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
289 10, -1).
290
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000291- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
292 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
293 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000294
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000295- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
296 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
297 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000298
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000299Library
300-------
301
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000302- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
303 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
304 error when they failed.
305
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000306- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
307
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000308- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
309
Georg Brandla24869a2008-07-16 22:33:18 +0000310- Issue #3312: Fix two crashes in sqlite3.
311
Georg Brandl86cbf812008-07-16 21:31:41 +0000312- Issue #1608818: Fix misbehavior in os.listdir() if readdir() fails.
313
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000314- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
315 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
316
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000317- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000318
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000319- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000804- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
805 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
806 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
807 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
808 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
809 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
810 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000874- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
875 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
876 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
877 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
878 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
879 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
880 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
881 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
882 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
883 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
884 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
885 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
886 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
887 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
888 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
889 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
890 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
891 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
892 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
893 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
894
895 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
896 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
897 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
898 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
899 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
900 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
901 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
902 access to the underlying socket used.
903
904 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
905 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
906 connect).

1181-----------------
1182
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001183- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001184 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001185
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001186- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1187
1188- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001189
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001190- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001191 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1192
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001193- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1194 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1195 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1196 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1197 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1198 module is:
1199 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1200
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001201- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1202 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1203 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1204 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1205 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1206 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1207
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001208- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1209 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1210 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1211 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1212 PyObject_Format().
1213
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001214- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1215 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1216 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001217
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001218- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001219 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1220 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001225- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1226 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1227 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001228
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001229- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1230 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1231 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001232
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001233- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1234 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1235
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001236- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1237 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001238
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001239- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API

1244 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1245 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001246
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001247- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001259- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1260 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1261 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001262
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001263- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1264 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1265 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1266 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001267
Guido van Rossumeead05f2008-01-24 18:21:02 +00001268- A few crashers fixed: weakref_in_del.py (issue #1377858);

2871-----
2872
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002873- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
2874 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
2875 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
2876 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00002877
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002878- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
2879 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
2880 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002881
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00002882- Added ``PySet_Check()`` and ``PyFrozenSet_Check()`` to the set API.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002883
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002884- Backport of PyUnicode_FromString(), _FromStringAndSize(), _Format
2885 and _FormatV from Python 3.0. Made PyLong_AsSsize_t and
2886 PyLong_FromSsize_t public functions.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002887
2888- Patch #1720595: add T_BOOL to the range of structmember types.
2889
2890- Issue #1534: Added ``PyFloat_GetMax()``, ``PyFloat_GetMin()`` and
2891 ``PyFloat_GetInfo()`` to the float API.
2892
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002893- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
2894 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
2895 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
2896 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002897
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002898- Issue #1629: Renamed Py_Size, Py_Type and Py_Refcnt to Py_SIZE,
2899 Py_TYPE and Py_REFCNT.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002900
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002901- PEP 3123: Provide forward compatibility with Python 3.0, while
2902 keeping backwards compatibility. Add Py_Refcnt, Py_Type, Py_Size,
2903 and PyVarObject_HEAD_INIT.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002904
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002905- Py_ssize_t fields work in structmember when HAVE_LONG_LONG is not
2906 defined.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002907
2908- Patch #1733960: Allow T_LONGLONG to accept ints.
2909
2910- T_PYSSIZET can now be used in PyMemberDef lists for Py_ssize_t members.
2911
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002912- Added a new API function ``PyImport_ImportModuleNoBlock``.
2913
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002914- Bug #1637022: Prefix AST symbols with _Py_.
2915
2916- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
2917 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
2918
2919- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
2920 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
2921
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002922- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do
2923 absolute imports. In earlier versions they might have used relative
2924 imports under some conditions.
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002925
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002926- Added case insensitive comparison methods ``PyOS_stricmp(char*,
2927 char*)`` and ``PyOS_strnicmp(char*, char*, Py_ssize_t)``.
Christian Heimes000a0742008-01-03 22:16:32 +00002928

2937 requires Windows 2000 or greater. The _WINVER and NTDDI_VERSION
2938 macros are set to Win2k for x86/32bit builds and WinXP for AMD64
2939 builds.
Christian Heimes95d64472008-02-09 19:55:22 +00002940

2953
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002954- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
2955 This lead to the deprecation of macostools.touched() as it relied
2956 solely on macfs and was a no-op under OS X.
