11
12Core and Builtins
13-----------------
14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +000015- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
16 a unicode argument.
17
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +000018- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.
19
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +000020- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +000021 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +000022 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
23
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +000024- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +000025 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
26 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
27 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
28 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
29 type object.
30
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +000031- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
32
33- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
34
35- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
36
37- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
38
Christian Heimesfb1813c2008-08-22 19:34:15 +000039- Issue #3642: Changed type of numarenas from uint to size_t
40 in order to silence a compilier warning on 64bit OSes.
41
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +000042- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
43 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
44
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +000045- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
46 ``__delslice__``.
47
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +000048C-API
49-----
50
51- Aliased PyObject_Bytes to PyObject_Str.
52
Barry Warsaw6a0b5592008-08-21 02:12:56 +000053Library
54-------
55
Benjamin Peterson973e6c22008-09-01 23:12:58 +000056- The deprecation warnings for the old camelCase threading API were removed.
57
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +000058- logging: fixed lack of use of encoding attribute specified on a stream.
59
Christian Heimesa27a62e2008-08-22 19:55:54 +000060- Silenced a trivial compiler warning in the sqlite module.
61
Christian Heimes1cc69632008-08-22 20:10:27 +000062- Fixed two format strings in the _collections module.
63
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +000064- Issue #3703: _fileio.FileIO gave unhelpful error message when trying to open a
65 directory.
Benjamin Petersonf22c26e2008-09-01 14:13:43 +000066
Benjamin Peterson37346b22008-08-23 20:27:43 +000067Extension Modules
68-----------------
69
70- Issue #3643: Added a few more checks to _testcapi to prevent segfaults by
71 exploitation of poor argument checking.
72

Barry Warsaw07a4a382008-08-21 01:15:08 +000077*Release date: 20-Aug-2008*
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000078
79Core and Builtins
80-----------------
81
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +000082- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
83 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
84 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
85 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
86 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
87 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
88 default.
89
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +000090- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
91 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
92
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +000093- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
94 value again.
95
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +000096- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
97 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
98 and introducing s*.
99
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000100- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
101 object was stored in the freelist.
102
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000103- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
104 ValueError consistently across platforms.
105
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000106- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
107 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
108 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
109
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000110- Apply security patches from Apple.
111
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000112- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
113 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
114
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000115- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
116 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
117
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000118- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
119 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
120 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
121
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000122- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
123 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
124 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
125 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
126 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
127 failed have been fixed.
128
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000129Library
130-------
131
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000132- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
133
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000134- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
135 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
136
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000137- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
138 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
139 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
140
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000141- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
142 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
143 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
144 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
145 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
146 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
147
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000148- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
149 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
150
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000151- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
152
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000153- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
154
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000155- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
156
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000157- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
158 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
159
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000160- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
161 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
162
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000163- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
164 in a redirect.
165
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000166- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000167 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000168
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000169- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
170 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
171
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000172- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
173 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
174 regular expression.
175
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000176- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
177 thread-safe.
178
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000179- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
180 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
181 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
182
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000183- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
184
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000185- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
186 menu entries were not deleted.
187
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000188- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
189 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
190
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000191- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
192 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
193
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000194- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
195 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
196 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
197
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000198- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
199 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
200 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
201
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000202- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
203 the reload() built-in has been removed.
204
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000205- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000206 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000207 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
208 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
209 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
210 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
211 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000212
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000213- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
214 raised an AttributeError.
215
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000216- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000217 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
218 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000219
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000220- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
221 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
222
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000223- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
224
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000225- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
226 on a closed shelf.
227
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000228- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
229
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000230- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
231

233 invalid arguments.
234
235- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
236 with None arguments.
237
238- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
239 configuration files.
240
241- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
242
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000243- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
244 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
245 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
246
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000247- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
248 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
249 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
250
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000251Build
252-----

255
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000256Documentation
257-------------
258
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000259- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
260 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
261
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000262- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
263 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
264 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
265 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.
266

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000271*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
272
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000273Core and Builtins
274-----------------
275
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000276- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
277 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
278 an integer using operator.index().
279
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000280- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
281 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
282
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000283- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
284 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
285
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000286- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
287 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
288 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
289
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000290- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
291 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
292 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
293 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
294 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
295 level.
296
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000297- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
298 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
299 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
300 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
301 all imports from that module to fail.
302
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000303- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
304 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
305 new-style classes.
306
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000307- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
308 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
309 another file in sys.stdout.
310
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000311- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
312 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
313 another thread's dictionary.
314
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000315- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
316 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
317 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
318 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
319 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000836- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
837 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
838 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
839 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
840 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
841 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
842 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

890 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
891 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
892 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
893
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +0000894- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
895 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
896 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
897
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000898- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available,
899 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
900 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
901 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000906- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
907 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
908 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
909 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
910 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
911 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
912 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
913 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
914 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
915 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
916 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
917 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
918 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
919 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
920 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
921 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
922 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
923 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
924 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
925 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
926
927 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
928 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
929 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
930 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
931 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
932 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
933 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
934 access to the underlying socket used.
935
936 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
937 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
938 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000939
940 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000941 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

943 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
944
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000945 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
946 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001218- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1219
1220- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001221
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001222- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001223 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1224
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001225- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1226 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1227 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1228 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1229 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1230 module is:
1231 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1232
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001233- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1234 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1235 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1236 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1237 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1238 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1239
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001240- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1241 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1242 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1243 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1244 PyObject_Format().
1245
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001246- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1247 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1248 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001249
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001250- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001251 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1252 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001257- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1258 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1259 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001260
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001261- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1262 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1263 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001264
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001265- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1266 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1267
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001268- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1269 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001270
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001271- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API
1272 functions ``PyInt_CompactFreeList`` and ``PyFloat_CompactFreeList``

1276 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1277 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001278
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001279- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001291- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1292 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1293 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001294
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001295- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1296 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1297 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1298 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001299

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001406- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the
1407 possibility of having a self-referential tuple, which is possible
1408 from C code. Nor did object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str

1410 Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(), respectively, fixed the

2906 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
2907 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an

2911 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
