Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000025- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
26 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
27 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
28 it correctly refers to the initial element.

145-----------------
146
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000147- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
148
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000149- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
150 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
151 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
152 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
153 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
154 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
155 64bit values.
156
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000157- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
158 error.
159
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000160- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
161 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
162 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
163 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
164
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000165- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
166 a unicode argument.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000171 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000172 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
173
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000174- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000175 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
176 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
177 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
178 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
179 type object.
180
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000181- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
182
183- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
184
185- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
186
187- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
188
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000189- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
190 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
191
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000192- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
193 ``__delslice__``.
194
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000195- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
196 library targets in the Makefile.
197
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000198- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
199 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
200 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

219 with statements, or when the methods are invoked in the wrong order.

320Core and Builtins
321-----------------
322
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000323- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
324 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
325 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
326 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
327 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
328 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
329 default.
330
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000331- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
332 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
333
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000334- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
335 value again.
336
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000337- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
338 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
339 and introducing s*.
340
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000341- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
342 object was stored in the freelist.
343
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000344- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
345 ValueError consistently across platforms.
346
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000347- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
348 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
349 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
350
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000351- Apply security patches from Apple.
352
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000353- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
354 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
355
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000356- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
357 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
358
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000359- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
360 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
361 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
362
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000363- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
364 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
365 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
366 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
367 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
368 failed have been fixed.
369
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000370Library
371-------
372
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000373- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
374
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000375- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
376 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
377
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000378- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
379 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
380 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
381
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000382- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
383 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
384 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
385 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
386 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
387 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
388
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000389- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
390 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
391
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000392- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
393
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000394- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
395
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000396- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
397
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000398- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
399 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
400
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000401- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
402 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
403
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000404- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
405 in a redirect.
406
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000407- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000408 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000409
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000410- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
411 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
412
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000413- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
414 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
415 regular expression.
416
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000417- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
418 thread-safe.
419
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000420- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
421 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
422 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
423
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000424- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
425
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000426- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
427 menu entries were not deleted.
428
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000429- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
430 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
431
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000432- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
433 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
434
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000435- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
436 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
437 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
438
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000439- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
440 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
441 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
442
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000443- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
444 the reload() built-in has been removed.
445
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000446- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000447 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000448 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
449 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
450 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
451 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
452 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000453
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000454- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
455 raised an AttributeError.
456
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000457- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000458 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
459 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000460
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000461- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
462 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
463
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000464- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
465
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000466- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
467 on a closed shelf.
468
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000469- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
470
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000471- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
472
473- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
474 invalid arguments.
475
476- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
477 with None arguments.
478
479- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
480 configuration files.
481
482- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
483
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000484- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
485 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
486 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
487
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000488- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
489 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
490 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
491
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000492Build
493-----
494
495- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
496
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000497Documentation
498-------------
499
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000500- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
501 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
502
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000503- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
504 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
505 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
506 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

513
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000514Core and Builtins
515-----------------
516
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000517- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
518 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
519 an integer using operator.index().
520
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000521- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
522 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
523
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000524- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
525 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
526
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000527- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
528 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
529 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
530
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000531- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
532 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
533 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
534 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
535 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
536 level.
537
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000538- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
539 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
540 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
541 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
542 all imports from that module to fail.
543
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000544- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
545 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
546 new-style classes.
547
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000548- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
549 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
550 another file in sys.stdout.
551
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000552- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
553 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
554 another thread's dictionary.
555
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000556- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
557 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
558 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
559 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
560 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
561 10, -1).
562
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000563- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
564 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
565 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000566
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000567- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
568 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
569 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000570

572-------
573
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000574- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
575 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
576 error when they failed.
577
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000578- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
579

585
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000586- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
587 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
588
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000589- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000590
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000591- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
592 a valid dlerror() message.
593
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000594- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
595 incomplete structure was created.
596
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000597- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
598
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000599- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
600
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000601- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000602
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000603- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
604 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000605 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000606 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
607 merged into trunk.
608
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +0000609- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().
610
Martin v. Löwis8c436412008-07-03 12:51:14 +0000611- Issue #1622: Correct interpretation of various ZIP header fields.
612
613- Issue #1526: Allow more than 64k files to be added to Zip64 file.
614
615- Issue #1746: Correct handling of zipfile archive comments (previously
616 archives with comments over 4k were flagged as invalid). Allow writing
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000617 Zip files with archives by setting the 'comment' attribute of a ZipFile.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001077- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1078 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1079 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1080 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1081 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1082 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1083 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001147- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1148 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1149 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1150 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1151 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1152 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1153 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1154 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1155 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1156 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1157 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1158 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1159 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1160 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1161 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1162 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1163 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1164 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1165 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1166 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1167
1168 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1169 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1170 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1171 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1172 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1173 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1174 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1175 access to the underlying socket used.
1176
1177 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1178 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1179 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001180

1454-----------------
1455
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001456- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001457 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001458
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001459- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1460
1461- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001462
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001463- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001464 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1465
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001466- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1467 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1468 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1469 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1470 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1471 module is:
1472 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1473
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001474- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1475 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1476 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1477 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1478 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1479 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1480
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001481- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1482 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1483 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1484 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1485 PyObject_Format().
1486
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001487- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1488 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1489 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001490
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001491- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001492 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1493 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +00001494
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001495- Fixed repr() and str() of complex numbers with infinity or nan as
1496 real or imaginary part.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001498- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1499 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1500 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001501
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001502- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1503 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1504 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001505
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001506- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1507 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1508
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001509- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1510 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001511

1517 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1518 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001519
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001520- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001532- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1533 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1534 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001535

1537 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1538 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1539 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001540

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001720- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1721 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1722 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1723 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1724 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001725 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
