13-----------------
14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcdc619012008-11-22 20:01:18 +000015- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
16 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
17 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
18
Raymond Hettinger7989a4d2008-12-03 15:42:10 +000019- Issue #3689: The list reversed iterator now supports __length_hint__
20 instead of __len__. Behavior now matches other reversed iterators.
21
Benjamin Petersonc078f922008-11-21 22:27:24 +000022- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
23 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
24
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000025- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
26 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
27 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
28 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
29
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000030- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
31 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
32
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000033- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.
34

38
Benjamin Petersondcee09d2008-10-31 02:16:05 +000039- Issue #4225: ``from __future__ import unicode_literals`` didn't work in an
40 exec statement.
41
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc69a9c5b2008-10-30 21:18:34 +000042- Issue #4176: Fixed a crash when pickling an object which ``__reduce__``
43 method does not return iterators for the 4th and 5th items.
44
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000045- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
46 __future__ import didn't work.
47
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000048- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000049 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000050
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000051- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
52 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
53 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
54
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000055- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
56 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
57 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
58 it correctly refers to the initial element.
59

208-----------------
209
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000210- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
211
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000212- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
213 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
214 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
215 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
216 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
217 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
218 64bit values.
219
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000220- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
221 error.
222
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000223- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
224 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
225 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
226 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
227
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000228- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
229 a unicode argument.
230
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000231- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000234 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000235 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
236
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000237- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000238 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
239 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
240 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
241 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
242 type object.
243
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000244- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
245
246- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
247
248- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
249
250- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
251
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000252- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
253 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
254
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000255- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
256 ``__delslice__``.
257
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000258- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
259 library targets in the Makefile.
260
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000261- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
262 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
263 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

383Core and Builtins
384-----------------
385
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000386- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
387 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
388 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
389 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
390 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
391 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
392 default.
393
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000394- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
395 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
396
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000397- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
398 value again.
399
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000400- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
401 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
402 and introducing s*.
403
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000404- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
405 object was stored in the freelist.
406
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000407- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
408 ValueError consistently across platforms.
409
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000410- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
411 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
412 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
413
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000414- Apply security patches from Apple.
415
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000416- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
417 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
418
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000419- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
420 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
421
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000422- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
423 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
424 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
425
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000426- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
427 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
428 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
429 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
430 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
431 failed have been fixed.
432
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000433Library
434-------
435
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000436- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
437
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000438- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
439 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
440
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000441- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
442 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
443 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
444
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000445- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
446 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
447 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
448 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
449 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
450 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
451
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000452- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
453 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
454
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000455- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
456
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000457- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
458
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000459- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
460
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000461- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
462 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
463
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000464- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
465 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
466
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000467- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
468 in a redirect.
469
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000470- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000471 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000472
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000473- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
474 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
475
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000476- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
477 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
478 regular expression.
479
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000480- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
481 thread-safe.
482
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000483- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
484 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
485 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
486
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000487- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
488
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000489- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
490 menu entries were not deleted.
491
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000492- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
493 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
494
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000495- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
496 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
497
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000498- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
499 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
500 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
501
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000502- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
503 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
504 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
505
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000506- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
507 the reload() built-in has been removed.
508
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000509- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000510 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000511 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
512 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
513 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
514 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
515 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000516
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000517- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
518 raised an AttributeError.
519
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000520- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000521 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
522 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000523
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000524- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
525 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
526

533
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000534- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.

537 invalid arguments.
538
539- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
540 with None arguments.
541
542- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
543 configuration files.
544
545- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
546
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000547- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
548 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
549 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
550
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000551- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
552 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
553 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

562
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000563- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
564 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
565
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000566- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
567 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
568 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
569 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

576
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000577Core and Builtins
578-----------------
579
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000580- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
581 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
582 an integer using operator.index().
583
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000584- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
585 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
586
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000587- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
588 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
589
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000590- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
591 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
592 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
593
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000594- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
595 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
596 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
597 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
598 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
599 level.
600
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000601- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
602 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
603 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
604 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
605 all imports from that module to fail.
606
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000607- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
608 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
609 new-style classes.
610
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000611- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
612 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
613 another file in sys.stdout.
614
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000615- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
616 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
617 another thread's dictionary.
618
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000619- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
620 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
621 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
622 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
623 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001140- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1141 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1142 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1143 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1144 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1145 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1146 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
1147 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001189- Issue #2513: distutils on Windows is now capable of cross-compiling
Mark Hammond495cf992008-04-07 01:53:39 +00001190 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
1191 build documentation for more information.
1192
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +00001193- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
1194 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
1195 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
1196 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
1197
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +00001198- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
1199 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
1200 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
1201
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001202- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available,
1203 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
1204 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
1205 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001210- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1211 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1212 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1213 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1214 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1215 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1216 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1217 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1218 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1219 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1220 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1221 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1222 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1223 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1224 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1225 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1226 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1227 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1228 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1229 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1230
1231 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1232 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1233 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1234 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1235 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1236 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1237 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1238 access to the underlying socket used.
1239
1240 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1241 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1242 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001243
1244 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001245 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001246 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
1247 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1248
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001249 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1250 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +00001304- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001305 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
1306 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the
1307 'raw-unicode-escape' codec. Now UTF-16 surrogates are generated in
1308 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'
1309 codec.

1528
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001529- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1530 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1531 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1532 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1533 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1534 module is:
1535 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1536
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001537- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1538 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1539 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1540 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1541 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1542 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1543
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001544- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1545 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1546 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1547 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1548 PyObject_Format().
1549
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001550- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1551 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1552 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001553
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001554- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1563 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001564
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001565- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

3207-----
3208

3210 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``

Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003213

3215 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new

3230 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3231 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3232 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003233

3252- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3253 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3254
3255- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3256 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003290- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
