Ronald Oussoren5640ce22008-06-05 12:58:24 +0000313- On MacOS X it is now possible to install the framework in 64-bit
314 mode or even as a 4-way universal binary (that is, PPC, i386,
Georg Brandl5cc774e2008-06-11 20:28:06 +0000315 PPC64 and x86_64 support in one binary).
Ronald Oussoren5640ce22008-06-05 12:58:24 +0000316

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000377- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
378 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
379 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
380 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
381 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
382 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
383 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000444Tests
445-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000446
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000447- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
448 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
449 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
450 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
451 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
452 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
453 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
454 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
455 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
456 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
457 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
458 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
459 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
460 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
461 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
462 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
463 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
464 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
465 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
466 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
467
468 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
469 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
470 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
471 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
472 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
473 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
474 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
475 access to the underlying socket used.
476
477 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
478 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
479 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000480
481 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000482 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000483 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
484 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
485
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000486 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
487 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000541- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000542 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000766- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
767 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be

771 module is:
772 from future_builtins import hex, oct

Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000774- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit

776 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
777 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,

800 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000801
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000802- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
