191-----------------
192
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000193- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
194
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000195- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
196 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
197 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
198 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
199 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
200 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
201 64bit values.
202
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000203- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
204 error.
205
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000206- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
207 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
208 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
209 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
210
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000211- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
212 a unicode argument.
213

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000217 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000218 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
219
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000220- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000221 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
222 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
223 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
224 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
225 type object.
226
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000227- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
228
229- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
230
231- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
232
233- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
234
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000235- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
236 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
237
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000238- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
239 ``__delslice__``.
240
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000241- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
242 library targets in the Makefile.
243
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000244- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
245 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
246 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
247

254-------
255
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000256- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
257 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

366Core and Builtins
367-----------------
368
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000369- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
370 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
371 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
372 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
373 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
374 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
375 default.
376
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000377- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
378 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
379
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000380- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
381 value again.
382
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000383- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
384 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
385 and introducing s*.
386
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000387- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
388 object was stored in the freelist.
389
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000390- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
391 ValueError consistently across platforms.
392
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000393- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
394 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
395 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
396
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000397- Apply security patches from Apple.
398
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000399- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
400 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
401
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000402- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
403 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
404
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000405- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
406 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
407 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
408
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000409- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
410 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
411 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
412 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
413 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
414 failed have been fixed.

417-------
418
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000419- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
420
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000421- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
422 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
423
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000424- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
425 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
426 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
427
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000428- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
429 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
430 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
431 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
432 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
433 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
434
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000435- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
436 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
437
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000438- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
439
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000440- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
441
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000442- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
443
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000444- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
445 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
446
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000447- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
448 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
449
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000450- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
451 in a redirect.
452
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000453- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000454 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000455
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000456- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
457 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
458
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000459- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
460 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
461 regular expression.
462
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000463- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
464 thread-safe.
465
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000466- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
467 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
468 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
469
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000470- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
471
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000472- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
473 menu entries were not deleted.
474
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000475- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
476 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
477
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000478- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
479 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
480
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000481- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
482 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
483 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
484
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000485- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
486 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
487 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
488
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000489- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
490 the reload() built-in has been removed.
491
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000492- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000493 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000494 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,

498 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000499
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000500- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
501 raised an AttributeError.
502
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000503- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000504 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
505 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000506
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000507- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification

520 invalid arguments.
521
522- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
523 with None arguments.
524
525- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging

527
528- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
529
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000530- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
531 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
532 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
533
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000534- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword

548
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000549- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed

Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000560Core and Builtins
561-----------------
562
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000563- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
564 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
565 an integer using operator.index().
566
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000567- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
568 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
569
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000570- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
571 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
572
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000573- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
574 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
575 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
576
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000577- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
578 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
579 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
580 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
581 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
582 level.
583
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000584- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
585 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
586 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
587 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
588 all imports from that module to fail.
589
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000590- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
591 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
592 new-style classes.
593
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000594- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
595 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
596 another file in sys.stdout.
597
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000598- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
599 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
600 another thread's dictionary.
601
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000602- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
603 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
604 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
605 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
606 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
607 10, -1).
608
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000609- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
610 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
611 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000612
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000613- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
614 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
615 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000616

621 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
622 error when they failed.
623
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000624- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
625

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001123- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1124 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1125 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1126 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1127 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1128 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1129 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001193- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1194 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1195 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1196 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1197 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1198 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1199 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1200 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1201 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1202 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1203 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1204 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1205 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1206 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1207 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1208 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1209 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1210 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1211 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1212 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1213
1214 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1215 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1216 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1217 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1218 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1219 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1220 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1221 access to the underlying socket used.
1222
1223 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1224 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1225 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001226
1227 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001228 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1230 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1231
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001232 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1233 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001503 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001504
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001505- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1506
1507- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001508
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001509- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001510 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1511
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001512- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1513 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1514 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1515 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1516 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1517 module is:
1518 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1519
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001520- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1521 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1522 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1523 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1524 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1525 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1526
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001527- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1528 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1529 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1530 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1531 PyObject_Format().
1532
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001533- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1534 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1535 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001536
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001537- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001538 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1539 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001544- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1545 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1546 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001547
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001548- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1549 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1550 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001551
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001552- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1553 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1554
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001555- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1556 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001557
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001558- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API

1563 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1564 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001565
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001566- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001578- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1579 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1580 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001581
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001582- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1583 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1584 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1585 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

3190-----
3191
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003192- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
3193 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3194 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3195 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003196
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003197- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3198 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3199 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00003200

3211
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003212- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3213 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3214 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3215 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003216

3235- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3236 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3237
