Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000340- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
341 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
342 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
343 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
344 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
345 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
346 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
347 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
348 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
349 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
350 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
351 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
352 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
353 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
354 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
355 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
356 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
357 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
358 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
359 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
360
361 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
362 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
363 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
364 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
365 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
366 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
367 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
368 access to the underlying socket used.
369
370 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
371 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
372 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000373
374 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000375 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000376 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
377 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
378
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000379 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
380 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000435- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000436 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
437 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the
438 'raw-unicode-escape' codec. Now UTF-16 surrogates are generated in
439 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

659
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000660- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
661 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
662 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
663 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
664 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
665 module is:
666 from future_builtins import hex, oct
667
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000668- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
669 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
670 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
671 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
672 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
673 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
674
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000675- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
676 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
677 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
678 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
679 PyObject_Format().
680
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000681- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
682 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
683 state.

694 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000695
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000696- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
697 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
698 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000699

702
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000703- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

712 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000713
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000714- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they
