Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +000013- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
14 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier

16 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
17 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
18 10, -1).
19

21 for floats.
22
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +000023- Make bin() implementation parallel oct() and hex().

418 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
419 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
420 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

422 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
423 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

485-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000486
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000487- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
488 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
489 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
490 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
491 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
492 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
493 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
494 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
495 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
496 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
497 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
498 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
499 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
500 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
501 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
502 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
503 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
504 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
505 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
506 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
507
508 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
509 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
510 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
511 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
512 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
513 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
514 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
515 access to the underlying socket used.
516
517 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
518 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
519 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000520
521 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000522 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000523 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
524 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
525
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000526 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
527 suite to run in parallel without issue.

580
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000581- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000582 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

800
801- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000802
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000803- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000804 issue 215555 for a discussion.
805
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000806- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
807 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
808 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
809 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
810 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
811 module is:
812 from future_builtins import hex, oct
813
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000814- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
815 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
816 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
817 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
818 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
819 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
820
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000821- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
822 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
823 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
824 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
825 PyObject_Format().
826
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000827- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
828 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
829 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000830
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000831- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000832 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
833 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +0000834
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000835- Fixed repr() and str() of complex numbers with infinity or nan as
836 real or imaginary part.
Christian Heimes2f0da532008-02-15 06:57:08 +0000837
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000838- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
839 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
840 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000841
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000842- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
843 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
844 to a bound method.
