Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000334- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
335 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
336 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
337 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
338 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
339 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
340 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
341 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
342 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
343 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
344 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
345 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
346 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
347 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
348 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
349 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
350 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
351 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
352 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
353 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
354
355 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
356 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
357 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
358 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
359 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
360 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
361 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
362 access to the underlying socket used.
363
364 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
365 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
366 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000367
368 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000369 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000370 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
371 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
372
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000373 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
374 suite to run in parallel without issue.

433 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +0000645 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000647- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
648
649- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000650
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000651- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000652 issue 215555 for a discussion.
653
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000654- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
655 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
656 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
657 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
658 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
659 module is:
660 from future_builtins import hex, oct
661
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000662- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
663 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
664 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
665 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
666 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
667 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
668
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000669- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
670 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
671 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
672 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
673 PyObject_Format().
674
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000675- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
676 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
677 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000678
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000679- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

688 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000689
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000690- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
691 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
692 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000693
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000694- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
695 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
696
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000697- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

705 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
706 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000707
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000708- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

721 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
722 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000723

725 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
726 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
727 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000728

2335 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``

Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00002338

2340 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
2341 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.

2353
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002354- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
2355 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
2356 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
2357 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002358

2377- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
2378 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
2379
2380- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
2381 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
