10*Release date: XX-XXX-2008*
11
12Core and Builtins
13-----------------
14
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +000015- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
16 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
17 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
18
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +000019- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
20 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
21 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
22 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
23 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
24 type object.
25
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +000026- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
27
28- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
29
30- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
31
32- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
33
Christian Heimesfb1813c2008-08-22 19:34:15 +000034- Issue #3642: Changed type of numarenas from uint to size_t
35 in order to silence a compilier warning on 64bit OSes.
36
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +000037- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
38 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
39
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +000040- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
41 ``__delslice__``.
42
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +000043C-API
44-----
45
46- Aliased PyObject_Bytes to PyObject_Str.
47
Barry Warsaw6a0b5592008-08-21 02:12:56 +000048Library
49-------
50
Christian Heimesa27a62e2008-08-22 19:55:54 +000051- Silenced a trivial compiler warning in the sqlite module.
52
Christian Heimes1cc69632008-08-22 20:10:27 +000053- Fixed two format strings in the _collections module.
54
Benjamin Peterson37346b22008-08-23 20:27:43 +000055Extension Modules
56-----------------
57
58- Issue #3643: Added a few more checks to _testcapi to prevent segfaults by
59 exploitation of poor argument checking.
60

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000066
67Core and Builtins
68-----------------
69
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +000070- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
71 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
72 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
73 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
74 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
75 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
76 default.
77
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +000078- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
79 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
80
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +000081- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
82 value again.
83
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +000084- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
85 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
86 and introducing s*.
87
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +000088- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
89 object was stored in the freelist.
90
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +000091- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
92 ValueError consistently across platforms.
93
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +000094- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
95 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
96 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
97
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +000098- Apply security patches from Apple.
99
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000100- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
101 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
102
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000103- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
104 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
105
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000106- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
107 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
108 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
109
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000110- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
111 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
112 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
113 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
114 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
115 failed have been fixed.
116
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000117Library
118-------
119
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000120- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
121
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000122- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
123 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
124
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000125- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
126 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
127 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
128
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000129- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
130 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
131 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
132 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
133 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
134 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
135
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000136- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
137 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
138
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000139- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
140
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000141- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
142
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000143- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
144
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000145- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
146 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
147
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000148- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
149 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
150
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000151- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
152 in a redirect.
153
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000154- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000155 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000156
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000157- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
158 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
159
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000160- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
161 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
162 regular expression.
163
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000164- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
165 thread-safe.
166
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000167- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
168 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
169 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
170
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000171- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
172
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000173- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
174 menu entries were not deleted.
175
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000176- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
177 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
178
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000179- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
180 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
181
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000182- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
183 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
184 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
185
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000186- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
187 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
188 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
189
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000190- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
191 the reload() built-in has been removed.
192
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000193- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000194 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000195 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
196 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
197 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
198 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
199 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000200
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000201- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
202 raised an AttributeError.
203
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000204- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000205 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
206 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000207
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000208- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
209 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
210
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000211- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
212
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000213- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
214 on a closed shelf.

217
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000218- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.

221 invalid arguments.
222
223- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
224 with None arguments.
225
226- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
227 configuration files.
228
229- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
230
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000231- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
232 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
233 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
234
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000235- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
236 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
237 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
238
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000239Build

245-------------
246
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000247- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
248 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
249
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000250- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
251 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
252 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
253 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.
254
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000255
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000256What's New in Python 2.6 beta 2?
257================================
258
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000259*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
260
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000261Core and Builtins
262-----------------
263
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000264- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
265 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
266 an integer using operator.index().
267
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000268- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
269 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
270
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000271- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
272 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
273
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000274- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
275 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
276 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
277
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000278- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
279 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
280 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
281 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
282 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
283 level.
284
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000285- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
286 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
287 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
288 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
289 all imports from that module to fail.
290
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000291- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
292 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
293 new-style classes.
294
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000295- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
296 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
297 another file in sys.stdout.
298
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000299- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
300 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
301 another thread's dictionary.
302
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000303- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
304 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
305 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
306 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
307 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
308 10, -1).
309
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000310- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
311 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
312 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000313
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000314- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
315 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
316 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000317
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000318Library
319-------
320
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000321- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
322 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
323 error when they failed.
324

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000823- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
824 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
825 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where

894 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
895 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
896 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
897 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
898 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
899 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
900 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
901 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
902 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
903 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
904 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
905 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
906 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
907 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
908 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
909 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
910 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
911 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
912 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
913
914 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
915 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
916 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
917 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
918 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
919 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
920 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
921 access to the underlying socket used.
922
923 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
924 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
925 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000926
927 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000928 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000929 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
930 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
931
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000932 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
933 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001203 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001204
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001205- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1206
1207- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001208
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001209- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001210 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1211
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001212- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1213 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1214 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1215 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1216 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1217 module is:
1218 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1219
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001220- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1221 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1222 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1223 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1224 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1225 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1226
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001227- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1228 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1229 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1230 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1231 PyObject_Format().
1232
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001233- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1234 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1235 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001236
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001237- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001238 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1239 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001244- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1245 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1246 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001247
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001248- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1249 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1250 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001251
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001252- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1253 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1254
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001255- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1256 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001257
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001258- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API

1263 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1264 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001265
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001266- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001278- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1279 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1280 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001281
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001282- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1283 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1284 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1285 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001286

2890-----
2891
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002892- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
2893 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
2894 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
2895 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00002896

2898 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
2899 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002900

2911
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002912- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
2913 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
2914 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
2915 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00002916

2936 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
2937
