13-----------------
14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcad9b5992008-12-10 23:22:49 +000015- Issue #4597: Fixed exception handling when the __exit__ function of a

17
Jeffrey Yasskinffd42cf2008-12-10 07:35:02 +000018- Issue #4597: Fixed several opcodes that weren't always propagating
19 exceptions.
20
Mark Dickinson826f3fe2008-12-05 21:55:28 +000021- Issue #4445: Replace "sizeof(PyStringObject)" with
22 "offsetof(PyStringObject, ob_sval) + 1" when allocating memory for
23 str instances. On a typical machine this saves 3 bytes of memory
24 (on average) per string allocation.
25
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcdc619012008-11-22 20:01:18 +000026- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
27 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
28 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
29
Raymond Hettinger7989a4d2008-12-03 15:42:10 +000030- Issue #3689: The list reversed iterator now supports __length_hint__
31 instead of __len__. Behavior now matches other reversed iterators.
32
Benjamin Petersonc078f922008-11-21 22:27:24 +000033- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
34 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
35
Vinay Sajip213faca2008-12-03 23:22:58 +000036- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000037 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
38 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
39 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
40
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000041- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
42 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
43
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000044- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.
45
Benjamin Peterson273c2332008-11-17 22:39:09 +000046- Issue #4230: If ``__getattr__`` is a descriptor, it now functions correctly.
47
Benjamin Peterson6624a9f2008-11-03 15:14:51 +000048- Issue #4048: The parser module now correctly validates relative imports.
49

54 method does not return iterators for the 4th and 5th items.
55
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000056- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
57 __future__ import didn't work.
58
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000059- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000060 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000061
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000062- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
63 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
64 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
65
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000066- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
67 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
68 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
69 it correctly refers to the initial element.
70
Antoine Pitrouae5bece2008-12-06 21:29:24 +000071- Issue #4509: Various issues surrounding resize of bytearray objects to
72 which there are buffer exports.

103 could be found for logger XXX" message which can appear if the library user
104 doesn't configure logging.

255
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000256- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
257
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000258- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
259 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
260 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
261 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
262 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
263 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
264 64bit values.
265
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000266- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
267 error.
268
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000269- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
270 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
271 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
272 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
273
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000274- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
275 a unicode argument.
276

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000280 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000281 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
282
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000283- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000284 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
285 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
286 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
287 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
288 type object.
289
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000290- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
291
292- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
293
294- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
295
296- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
297
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000298- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
299 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
300
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000301- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
302 ``__delslice__``.
303
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000304- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
305 library targets in the Makefile.

308 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
309 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

429Core and Builtins
430-----------------
431
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000432- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
433 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
434 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
435 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
436 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
437 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
438 default.
439
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000440- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
441 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
442
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000443- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
444 value again.
445
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000446- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
447 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
448 and introducing s*.
449
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000450- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
451 object was stored in the freelist.
452
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000453- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
454 ValueError consistently across platforms.
455
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000456- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
457 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
458 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
459
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000460- Apply security patches from Apple.
461
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000462- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
463 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
464
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000465- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
466 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
467
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000468- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
469 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
470 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
471
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000472- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
473 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
474 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
475 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
476 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
477 failed have been fixed.
478
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000479Library
480-------
481
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000482- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
483
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000484- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
485 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
486
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000487- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
488 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
489 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
490
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000491- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
492 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
493 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
494 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
495 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
496 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
497
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000498- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
499 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
500
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000501- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
502
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000503- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
504
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000505- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
506
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000507- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
508 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
509
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000510- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
511 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
512
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000513- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
514 in a redirect.
515
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000516- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000517 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000518
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000519- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
520 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
521
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000522- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
523 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
524 regular expression.
525
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000526- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
527 thread-safe.
528
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000529- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
530 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
531 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
532
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000533- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
534
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000535- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
536 menu entries were not deleted.
537
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000538- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
539 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
540
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000541- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
542 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
543
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000544- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
545 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
546 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
547
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000548- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
549 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
550 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
551
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000552- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
553 the reload() built-in has been removed.
554

Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000562
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000563- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
564 raised an AttributeError.
565
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000566- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000567 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
568 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000569

592
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000593- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
594 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
595 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
596
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000597- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword

Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000623Core and Builtins
624-----------------
625
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000626- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
627 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
628 an integer using operator.index().
629
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000630- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
631 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
632
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000633- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
634 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
635
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000636- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
637 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
638 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
639
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000640- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
641 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
642 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
643 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
644 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
645 level.
646
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000647- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
648 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
649 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
650 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
651 all imports from that module to fail.
652
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000653- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
654 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
655 new-style classes.
656
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000657- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
658 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
659 another file in sys.stdout.
660
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000661- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
662 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
663 another thread's dictionary.
664
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000665- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
666 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
667 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
668 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
669 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
670 10, -1).
671
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000672- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
673 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
674 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000675
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000676- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
677 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
678 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000679
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000680Library
681-------
682
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000683- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
684 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
685 error when they failed.
686
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000687- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

694
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000695- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
696 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
697
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000698- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000712- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
713 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000714 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000715 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
716 merged into trunk.

Nick Coghlanc060b0e2008-07-02 13:09:19 +0000731- Issue #3190: Pydoc now hides the automatic module attribute __package__ (the
732 handling is now the same as that of other special attributes like __name__).
733
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000734- Issue #2885 (partial): The urllib.urlopen() function has been deprecated for

749 up in the child process to prevent deadlock and report proper thread counts
750 if the new process uses the threading module.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001186- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001256- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1257 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1258 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1259 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1260 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1261 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1262 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1263 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1264 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1265 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1266 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1267 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1268 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1269 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1270 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1271 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1272 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1273 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1274 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1275 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1276
1277 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1278 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1279 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1280 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1281 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1282 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1283 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1284 access to the underlying socket used.
1285
1286 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1287 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1288 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001289
1290 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001291 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1293 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1294
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001295 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1296 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001572- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001573 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1574
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001575- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1576 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1577 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1578 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1579 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1580 module is:
1581 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1582
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001583- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1584 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1585 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1586 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1587 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1588 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1589
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001590- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1591 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1592 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1593 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1594 PyObject_Format().
1595
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001596- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1597 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1598 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001599
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001600- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001607- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1608 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1609 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001610
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001611- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1612 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1613 to a bound method.

Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001615- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1616 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1617

1627 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001628
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001629- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

1643 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001644
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001645- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1646 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1647 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1648 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
