Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000321- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
322 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
323 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
324 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
325 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
326 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
327 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
328 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
329 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
330 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
331 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
332 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
333 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
334 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
335 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
336 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
337 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
338 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
339 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
340 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
341
342 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
343 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
344 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
345 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
346 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
347 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
348 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
349 access to the underlying socket used.
350
351 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
352 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
353 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000354
355 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000356 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000357 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
358 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
359
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000360 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
361 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000416- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000417 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

420 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000641- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
642 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
643 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
644 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
645 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
646 module is:
647 from future_builtins import hex, oct
648
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000649- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
650 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
651 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
652 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
653 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
654 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
655
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000656- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
657 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
658 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
659 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
660 PyObject_Format().
661
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000662- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
663 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
664 state.

675 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000676
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000677- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

679 to a bound method.

683
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000684- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

693 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000694
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000695- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000818- The enumerate() builtin function is no longer bounded to sequences
819 smaller than LONG_MAX. Formerly, it raised an OverflowError. Now,
820 automatically shifts from ints to longs.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000822- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the
823 possibility of having a self-referential tuple, which is possible
824 from C code. Nor did object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str
825 could do something that could lead to an inifinite recursion.
826 Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(), respectively, fixed the
827 issues.

831 as needed. Now PyObject_Print() does the right thing along with
832 various tp_print implementations of the built-in types and those in

Brett Cannon1e534b52007-09-07 04:18:30 +0000842- Issue #1202533: Fix infinite recursion calls triggered by calls to
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000843 PyObject_Call() never calling back out to Python code to trigger
844 recursion depth updates/checks. Required the creation of a static

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000895- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
896 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
897 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
898 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
899 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000900 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
901 as supported by type.__new__().

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000903- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an

907 method.

2322 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
