Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000303- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
304 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
305 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
306 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
307 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
308 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
309 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
310 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000372
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000373- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
374 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
375 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
376 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
377 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
378 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
379 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
380 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
381 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
382 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
383 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
384 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
385 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
386 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
387 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
388 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
389 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
390 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
391 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
392 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
393
394 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
395 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
396 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
397 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
398 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
399 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
400 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
401 access to the underlying socket used.
402
403 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
404 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
405 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000406
407 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000408 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000409 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
410 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
411
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000412 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
413 suite to run in parallel without issue.

687- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000688
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000689- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000690 issue 215555 for a discussion.
691
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000692- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
693 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
694 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
695 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
696 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
697 module is:
698 from future_builtins import hex, oct
699
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000700- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
701 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
702 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
703 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
704 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
705 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
706
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000707- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
708 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
709 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
710 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
711 PyObject_Format().
712
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000713- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
714 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
715 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000716
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000717- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

726 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000727
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000728- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

730 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000731
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000732- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
733 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
734
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000735- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

743 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
744 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000745
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000746- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they
