303 when passed a value less than or equal to zero.
Gregory P. Smith671c5d92008-04-09 18:18:43 +0000304
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000305- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
306 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
307 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
308 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
309 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
310 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
311 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
312 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000374
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000375- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
376 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
377 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
378 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
379 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
380 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
381 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
382 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
383 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
384 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
385 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
386 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
387 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
388 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
389 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
390 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
391 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
392 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
393 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
394 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
395
396 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
397 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
398 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
399 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
400 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
401 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
402 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
403 access to the underlying socket used.
404
405 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
406 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
407 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000408
409 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000410 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000411 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
412 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
413
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000414 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
415 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000469- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000470 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

473 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000687- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
688
689- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000690
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000691- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000692 issue 215555 for a discussion.
693
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000694- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
695 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
696 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
697 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
698 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
699 module is:
700 from future_builtins import hex, oct
701
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000702- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
703 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
704 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
705 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
706 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
707 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
708
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000709- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
710 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
711 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
712 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
713 PyObject_Format().
714
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000715- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
716 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
717 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000718
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000719- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

721 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +0000722

727 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
728 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000729
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000730- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
731 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
732 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000733
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000734- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
735 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
736
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000737- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

745 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
746 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000747
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000748- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

761 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
762 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000763

765 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
766 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
767 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000768
