387
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000388- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
389 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
390 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
391 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
392 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
393 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
394 64bit values.
395
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000396- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on

400 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
401 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of

Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000414 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__

559Core and Builtins
560-----------------
561
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000562- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
563 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
564 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
565 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
566 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
567 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
568 default.
569
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000570- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
571 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
572
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000573- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
574 value again.
575
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000576- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
577 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
578 and introducing s*.
579
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000580- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
581 object was stored in the freelist.
582
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000583- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
584 ValueError consistently across platforms.
585
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000586- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
587 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
588 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
589
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000590- Apply security patches from Apple.
591
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000592- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
593 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
594
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000595- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
596 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
597
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000598- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
599 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
600 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
601
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000602- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
603 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
604 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
605 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
606 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
607 failed have been fixed.

Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000612- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
613
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000614- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
615 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
616
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000617- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
618 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
619 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.

754-----------------
755
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000756- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
757 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
758 an integer using operator.index().
759
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000760- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
761 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
762
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000763- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
764 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
765
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000766- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
767 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
768 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
769
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000770- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
771 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
772 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
773 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
774 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
775 level.
776
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000777- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
778 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
779 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
780 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
781 all imports from that module to fail.
782
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000783- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
784 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
785 new-style classes.
786
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000787- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
788 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
789 another file in sys.stdout.
790
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000791- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
792 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
793 another thread's dictionary.
794
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000795- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
796 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
797 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
798 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
799 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
800 10, -1).
801
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000802- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
803 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
804 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000805
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000806- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with

815 error when they failed.
816
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000817- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000842- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
843 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000844 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000845 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
846 merged into trunk.

863
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000864- Issue #2885 (partial): The urllib.urlopen() function has been deprecated for

1384-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001385
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001386- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1387 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1388 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1389 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1390 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1391 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1392 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1393 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1394 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1395 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1396 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1397 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1398 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1399 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1400 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1401 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1402 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1403 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1404 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1405 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1406
1407 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1408 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1409 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1410 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1411 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1412 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1413 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1414 access to the underlying socket used.
1415
1416 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1417 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1418 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001419
1420 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:

1424

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001481 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
1482 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the
1483 'raw-unicode-escape' codec. Now UTF-16 surrogates are generated in
1484 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'
1485 codec.

1704
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001705- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1706 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1707 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1708 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1709 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1710 module is:
1711 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1712
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001713- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1714 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1715 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1716 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1717 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1718 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1719
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001720- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1721 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1722 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001726- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1727 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent

1960 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1961 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the

Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001964 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
1965 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001966
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001967- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an
