339 when passed a value less than or equal to zero.
Gregory P. Smith671c5d92008-04-09 18:18:43 +0000340
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000341- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
342 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
343 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
344 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
345 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
346 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
347 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
348 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

375 issued when input echo cannot be controlled.
Gregory P. Smith41e30182008-04-21 21:31:08 +0000376

Mark Hammond495cf992008-04-07 01:53:39 +0000391 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
392 build documentation for more information.
393
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000394- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
395 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
396 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
397 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.

404 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
405 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
406 data files.

409-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000410
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000411- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
412 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
413 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
414 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
415 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
416 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
417 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
418 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
419 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
420 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
421 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
422 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
423 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
424 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
425 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
426 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
427 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
428 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
429 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
430 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
431
432 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
433 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
434 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
435 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
436 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
437 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
438 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
439 access to the underlying socket used.
440
441 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
442 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
443 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000444
445 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000446 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000447 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
448 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
449
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000450 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
451 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000505- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000506 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

509 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

729
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000730- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
731 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
732 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
733 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
734 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
735 module is:
736 from future_builtins import hex, oct
737
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000738- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
739 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
740 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
741 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
742 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
743 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
744
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000745- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new

764 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000765
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000766- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

782 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000783
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000784- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000984- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
985 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
986 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
987 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
988 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000989 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature

996 method.
