341 when passed a value less than or equal to zero.
Gregory P. Smith671c5d92008-04-09 18:18:43 +0000342
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000343- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
344 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
345 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
346 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
347 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
348 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
349 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
350 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Mark Hammond495cf992008-04-07 01:53:39 +0000393 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
394 build documentation for more information.
395
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000396- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
397 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
398 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
399 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.

406 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
407 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
408 data files.

411-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000412
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000413- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
414 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
415 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
416 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
417 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
418 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
419 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
420 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
421 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
422 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
423 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
424 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
425 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
426 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
427 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
428 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
429 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
430 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
431 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
432 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
433
434 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
435 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
436 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
437 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
438 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
439 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
440 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
441 access to the underlying socket used.
442
443 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
444 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
445 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000446
447 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000448 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000449 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
450 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
451
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000452 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
453 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000507- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000508 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

511 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

731
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000732- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
733 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
734 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
735 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
736 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
737 module is:
738 from future_builtins import hex, oct
739
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000740- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
741 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
742 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
743 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
744 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
745 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
746
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000747- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
748 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
749 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and

751 PyObject_Format().
752
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000753- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
754 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
755 state.

766 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000767
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000768- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

770 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000771

774

783 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
784 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000785
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000786- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

799 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
800 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000801
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000802- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
