Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000272- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
273 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000342- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
343 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
344 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
345 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
346 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
347 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
348 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
349 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
350 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
351 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
352 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
353 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
354 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
355 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
356 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
357 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
358 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
359 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
360 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
361 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
362
363 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
364 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
365 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
366 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
367 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
368 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
369 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
370 access to the underlying socket used.
371
372 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
373 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
374 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000375
376 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000377 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000378 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
379 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
380
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000381 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
382 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000437- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000438 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
439 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the
440 'raw-unicode-escape' codec. Now UTF-16 surrogates are generated in
441 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'
442 codec.

656
657- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000658
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000659- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000660 issue 215555 for a discussion.
661
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000662- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
663 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
664 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
665 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
666 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
667 module is:
668 from future_builtins import hex, oct
669
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000670- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
671 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
672 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
673 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
674 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
675 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
676
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000677- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
678 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
679 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
680 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
681 PyObject_Format().
682
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000683- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
684 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
685 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000686
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000687- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

696 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000697
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000698- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
699 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
700 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000701
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000702- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
703 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
704
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000705- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

713 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
714 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000715
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000716- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

729 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
730 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000731

733 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
734 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
735 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000736

2343 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
