30 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
31 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
32
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000033- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
34 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
35 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
36 it correctly refers to the initial element.

152Core and Builtins
153-----------------
154
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000155- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
156
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000157- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
158 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
159 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
160 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
161 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
162 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
163 64bit values.
164
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000165- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
166 error.
167
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000168- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
169 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
170 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
171 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
172
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000173- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
174 a unicode argument.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000179 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000180 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
181
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000182- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000183 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
184 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
185 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
186 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
187 type object.
188
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000189- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
190
191- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
192
193- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.

196
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000197- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
198 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
199
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000200- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
201 ``__delslice__``.
202
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000203- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
204 library targets in the Makefile.
205
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000206- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
207 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
208 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

328Core and Builtins
329-----------------
330
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000331- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
332 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
333 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
334 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
335 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
336 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
337 default.
338
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000339- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
340 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
341
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000342- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
343 value again.
344
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000345- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
346 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
347 and introducing s*.
348
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000349- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
350 object was stored in the freelist.
351
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000352- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
353 ValueError consistently across platforms.
354
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000355- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
356 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
357 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
358
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000359- Apply security patches from Apple.
360
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000361- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
362 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
363
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000364- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
365 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
366
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000367- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
368 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
369 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
370
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000371- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
372 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
373 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
374 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
375 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
376 failed have been fixed.
377
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000378Library
379-------
380
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000381- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
382
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000383- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
384 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
385
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000386- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
387 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
388 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
389
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000390- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
391 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
392 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
393 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
394 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
395 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
396
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000397- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
398 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
399
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000400- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
401
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000402- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
403
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000404- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
405
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000406- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
407 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
408
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000409- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
410 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
411
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000412- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
413 in a redirect.
414
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000415- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000416 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000417
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000418- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
419 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
420
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000421- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
422 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
423 regular expression.
424
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000425- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
426 thread-safe.
427
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000428- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
429 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
430 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
431
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000432- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
433
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000434- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
435 menu entries were not deleted.
436
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000437- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
438 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
439
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000440- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
441 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
442
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000443- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
444 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
445 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
446
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000447- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
448 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
449 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
450
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000451- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
452 the reload() built-in has been removed.
453
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000454- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000455 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000456 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
457 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
458 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
459 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
460 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000461
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000462- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
463 raised an AttributeError.
464
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000465- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000466 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
467 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000468
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000469- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
470 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
471
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000472- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
473
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000474- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
475 on a closed shelf.
476
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000477- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
478
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000479- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
480

482 invalid arguments.
483
484- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
485 with None arguments.
486
487- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
488 configuration files.
489
490- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
491
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000492- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
493 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
494 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
495
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000496- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
497 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
498 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
499
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000500Build

503- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
504
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000505Documentation
506-------------
507
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000508- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
509 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
510
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000511- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
512 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
513 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
514 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000520*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
521
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000522Core and Builtins
523-----------------
524
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000525- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
526 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
527 an integer using operator.index().
528
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000529- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
530 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
531
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000532- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
533 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
534
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000535- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
536 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
537 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
538
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000539- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
540 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
541 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
542 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
543 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
544 level.
545
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000546- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
547 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
548 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
549 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
550 all imports from that module to fail.
551
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000552- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
553 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
554 new-style classes.
555
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000556- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
557 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
558 another file in sys.stdout.
559
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000560- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
561 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
562 another thread's dictionary.
563
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000564- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
565 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
566 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
567 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
568 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
569 10, -1).
570
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000571- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
572 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
573 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000574
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000575- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
576 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
577 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000578

580-------
581
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000582- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
583 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
584 error when they failed.
585
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000586- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
587
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000588- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
589
Georg Brandla24869a2008-07-16 22:33:18 +0000590- Issue #3312: Fix two crashes in sqlite3.
591

593
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000594- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
595 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
596
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000597- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000598
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000599- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
600 a valid dlerror() message.
601
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000602- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
603 incomplete structure was created.
604
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000605- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
606
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000607- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
608
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000609- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000610
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000611- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
612 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000613 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000614 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
615 merged into trunk.
616
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +0000617- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001085- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1086 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1087 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1088 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

1090 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1091 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

1153-----

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001155- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1156 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1157 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1158 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1159 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1160 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1161 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1162 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1163 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1164 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1165 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1166 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1167 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1168 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1169 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1170 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1171 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1172 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1173 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1174 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1175
1176 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1177 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1178 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1179 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1180 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1181 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1182 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1183 access to the underlying socket used.
1184
1185 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1186 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1187 connect).

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001465 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001466
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001467- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1468
1469- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001470
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001471- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001472 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1473
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001474- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1475 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1476 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1477 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1478 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1479 module is:
1480 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1481
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001482- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1483 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1484 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1485 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1486 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1487 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1488
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001489- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1490 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1491 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1492 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1493 PyObject_Format().
1494
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001495- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1496 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1497 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001498
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001499- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001500 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1501 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001506- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1507 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1508 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001509
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001510- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1511 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1512 to a bound method.

1525 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1526 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001527
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001528- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001540- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1541 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1542 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001543

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003159- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3160 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3161 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.

3173
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003174- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3175 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3176 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3177 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003178
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003179- Issue #1629: Renamed Py_Size, Py_Type and Py_Refcnt to Py_SIZE,

3196
3197- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3198 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3199
3200- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3201 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
3202
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003203- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003235- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
