11
12Core and Builtins
13-----------------
14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +000015- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
16 a unicode argument.
17
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +000018- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.
19
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +000020- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +000021 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +000022 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
23
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +000024- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +000025 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
26 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
27 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
28 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
29 type object.
30
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +000031- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
32
33- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
34
35- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
36
37- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
38
Christian Heimesfb1813c2008-08-22 19:34:15 +000039- Issue #3642: Changed type of numarenas from uint to size_t
40 in order to silence a compilier warning on 64bit OSes.
41
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +000042- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
43 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
44
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +000045- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
46 ``__delslice__``.
47
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +000048- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
49 library targets in the Makefile.
50
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +000051C-API
52-----
53
54- Aliased PyObject_Bytes to PyObject_Str.
55
Barry Warsaw6a0b5592008-08-21 02:12:56 +000056Library
57-------
58
Vinay Sajip6a2fd812008-09-03 09:20:05 +000059- Issue #3726: Allowed spaces in separators in logging configuration files.
60
Marc-André Lemburg31a0a142008-09-02 12:11:19 +000061- Issue #3719: platform.architecture() fails if there are spaces in the
62 path to the Python binary.
63
Brett Cannon1eaf0742008-09-02 01:25:16 +000064- Issue 3602: Moved test.test_support.catch_warning() to
65 warnings.catch_warnings() along with some API cleanup. Expanding the tests
66 for catch_warnings() also led to an improvement in the raising of a
67 DeprecationWarning related to warnings.warn_explicit().
68
Benjamin Peterson973e6c22008-09-01 23:12:58 +000069- The deprecation warnings for the old camelCase threading API were removed.
70
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +000071- logging: fixed lack of use of encoding attribute specified on a stream.
72
Christian Heimesa27a62e2008-08-22 19:55:54 +000073- Silenced a trivial compiler warning in the sqlite module.
74
Christian Heimes1cc69632008-08-22 20:10:27 +000075- Fixed two format strings in the _collections module.
76
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +000077- Issue #3703: _fileio.FileIO gave unhelpful error message when trying to open a
78 directory.
Benjamin Petersonf22c26e2008-09-01 14:13:43 +000079
Gregory P. Smithd7122032008-09-02 05:36:11 +000080- Issue #3708: os.urandom no longer goes into an infinite loop when passed a
81 non-integer floating point number.
82
Benjamin Peterson37346b22008-08-23 20:27:43 +000083Extension Modules
84-----------------
85
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc293924b2008-09-02 23:19:56 +000086- Issue #2975: When compiling several extension modules with Visual Studio 2008
87 from the same python interpreter, some environment variables would grow
88 without limit.
89
Benjamin Peterson37346b22008-08-23 20:27:43 +000090- Issue #3643: Added a few more checks to _testcapi to prevent segfaults by
91 exploitation of poor argument checking.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000098
99Core and Builtins
100-----------------
101
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000102- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
103 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
104 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
105 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
106 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
107 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
108 default.
109
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000110- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
111 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
112
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000113- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
114 value again.
115
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000116- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
117 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
118 and introducing s*.
119
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000120- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
121 object was stored in the freelist.
122
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000123- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
124 ValueError consistently across platforms.
125
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000126- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
127 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
128 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
129
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000130- Apply security patches from Apple.
131
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000132- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
133 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
134
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000135- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
136 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
137
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000138- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
139 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
140 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
141
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000142- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
143 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
144 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
145 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
146 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
147 failed have been fixed.
148
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000149Library
150-------
151
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000152- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
153
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000154- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
155 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
156
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000157- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
158 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
159 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
160
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000161- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
162 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
163 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
164 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
165 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
166 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
167
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000168- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
169 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
170
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000171- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
172
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000173- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
174
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000175- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
176
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000177- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
178 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
179
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000180- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
181 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
182
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000183- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
184 in a redirect.
185
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000186- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000187 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000188
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000189- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
190 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
191
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000192- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
193 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
194 regular expression.
195
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000196- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
197 thread-safe.
198
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000199- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
200 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
201 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
202
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000203- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
204
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000205- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
206 menu entries were not deleted.
207
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000208- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
209 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
210
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000211- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
212 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
213
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000214- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
215 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
216 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
217
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000218- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
219 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
220 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
221
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000222- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
223 the reload() built-in has been removed.
224
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000225- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000226 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000227 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
228 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
229 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
230 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
231 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000232
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000233- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
234 raised an AttributeError.
235
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000236- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000237 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
238 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000239
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000240- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
241 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
242

253 invalid arguments.
254
255- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
256 with None arguments.
257
258- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
259 configuration files.
260
261- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
262
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000263- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
264 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
265 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
266
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000267- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword

269 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
270
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000271Build

277-------------
278
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000279- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
280 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
281
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000282- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
283 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
284 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
285 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000291*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
292
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000293Core and Builtins
294-----------------
295
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000296- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
297 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
298 an integer using operator.index().
299
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000300- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
301 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
302
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000303- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
304 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
305
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000306- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
307 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
308 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
309
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000310- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
311 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
312 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
313 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
314 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
315 level.
316
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000317- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
318 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000856- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
857 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
858 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where

860 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
861 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
862 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000926- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
927 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
928 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
929 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
930 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
931 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
932 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
933 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
934 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
935 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
936 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
937 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
938 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
939 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
940 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
941 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
942 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
943 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
944 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
945 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
946
947 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
948 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
949 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
950 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
951 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
952 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
953 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
954 access to the underlying socket used.
955
956 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
957 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
958 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000959
960 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000961 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000962 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
963 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
964
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000965 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
966 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +00001020- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001021 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
1022 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the
1023 'raw-unicode-escape' codec. Now UTF-16 surrogates are generated in
1024 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'
1025 codec.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001238- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1239
1240- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001241
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001242- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001243 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1244
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001245- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1246 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1247 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1248 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1249 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1250 module is:
1251 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1252
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001253- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1254 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1255 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1256 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1257 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1258 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1259
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001260- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1261 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1262 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1263 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1264 PyObject_Format().
1265
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001266- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1267 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1268 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001269
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001270- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001271 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001277- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1278 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1279 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001280
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001281- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1282 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1283 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001284
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001285- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1286 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1287
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001288- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1289 entries each.

1296 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1297 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001298
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001299- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001311- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1312 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1313 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001314
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001315- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1316 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1317 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1318 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001422- The enumerate() builtin function is no longer bounded to sequences
1423 smaller than LONG_MAX. Formerly, it raised an OverflowError. Now,
1424 automatically shifts from ints to longs.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001426- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the
1427 possibility of having a self-referential tuple, which is possible
1428 from C code. Nor did object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str
1429 could do something that could lead to an inifinite recursion.
1430 Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(), respectively, fixed the
1431 issues.

1434 'print' statement to write to a file since the GIL was not released
1435 as needed. Now PyObject_Print() does the right thing along with
1436 various tp_print implementations of the built-in types and those in

Brett Cannon1e534b52007-09-07 04:18:30 +00001446- Issue #1202533: Fix infinite recursion calls triggered by calls to
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001447 PyObject_Call() never calling back out to Python code to trigger
1448 recursion depth updates/checks. Required the creation of a static

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001499- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1500 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1501 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1502 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1503 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001504 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
1505 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001506
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001507- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an
1508 object to complex using its __complex__() method before falling back
1509 to the __float__() method. Therefore, the functions in the cmath
1510 module now can operate on objects that define a __complex__()
