Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000301- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
302 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
303 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
304 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
305 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
306 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
307 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
308 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000370
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000371- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
372 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
373 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
374 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
375 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
376 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
377 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
378 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
379 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
380 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
381 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
382 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
383 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
384 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
385 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
386 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
387 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
388 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
389 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
390 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
391
392 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
393 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
394 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
395 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
396 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
397 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
398 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
399 access to the underlying socket used.
400
401 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
402 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
403 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000404
405 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000406 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000407 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
408 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
409
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000410 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
411 suite to run in parallel without issue.

689
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000690- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
691 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
692 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
693 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
694 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
695 module is:
696 from future_builtins import hex, oct
697
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000698- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
699 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
700 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
701 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
702 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
703 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
704
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000705- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
706 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
707 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
708 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
709 PyObject_Format().
710
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000711- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
712 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
713 state.

724 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000725
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000726- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
727 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
728 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000729
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000730- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
731 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
732
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000733- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

742 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000743
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000744- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they
