28 passed a value less than or equal to zero.
29
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +000030- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the original Python
31 code has been kept as backup). This will allow for using the 'warning's
32 machinery in such places as the parser where use of pure Python code is not
33 possible.

56 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
57 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
58 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
59
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +000060- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
61 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
62 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
63
Fred Drake46c58c12008-04-04 05:41:30 +000064- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available, so the
65 controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical script
66 environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to data files.
67
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +000068Tests
69-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +000070- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining ports
71 to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an effort to
72 facilitate running multiple instances of the entire regression test suite
73 in parallel without issue. test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such
74 that it will always return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case
75 with the previous implementation, especially if socket options had been
76 set that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
77 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception if it
78 is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the SO_REUSEADDR or
79 SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if available, bind_port()
80 will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on the socket it's been passed.
81 This currently only applies to Windows. This option prevents any other
82 sockets from binding to the host/port we've bound to, thus removing the
83 possibility of the 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it,
84 that occurs when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a
85 host/port that's already been bound by another socket. The optional
86 preferred port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
87 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
88
89 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will pass
90 a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an unused port.
91 The temporary socket object is then closed and deleted, and the port is
92 returned. This method should only be used for obtaining an unused port
93 in order to pass to an external program (i.e. the -accept [port] argument
94 to openssl's s_server mode) or as a parameter to a server-oriented class
95 that doesn't give you direct access to the underlying socket used.
96
97 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used for
98 the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and connect).
99
100 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
101 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
102 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
103 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
104
105 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test suite to
106 run in parallel without issue.

109-----
110
Thomas Hellerdc96a772008-04-04 10:07:55 +0000111- Issue #2544: On HP-UX systems, use 'gcc -shared' for linking when
112 gcc is used as compiler.
113
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000114C API
115-----
116
Christian Heimes6f341092008-04-18 23:13:07 +0000117- Added implementation of copysign, acosh, asinh, atanh and log1p
118 to the new files Include/pymath.h and Python/pymath.h for
119 platforms which provide the functions through their libm. The
120 files also contains several helpers and constants for math.

350-----------------
351
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +0000352- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +0000353 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +0000354
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000355- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
356
357- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000358
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000359- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000360 issue 215555 for a discussion.
361
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000362- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
363 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
364 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
365 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
366 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
367 module is:
368 from future_builtins import hex, oct
369
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000370- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
371 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
372 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
373 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
374 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
375 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
376
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000377- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
378 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
379 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
380 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
381 PyObject_Format().
382
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000383- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted __del__
384 methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent state.
385
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000386- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

391 imaginary part.
392
Andrew M. Kuchlingc6511a82008-03-04 01:48:26 +0000393- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation in order
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000394 to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back memory to the
395 OS earlier.
396

399
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000400- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
401 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
402
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +0000403- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256 entries
404 each.

424
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000425- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is the
426 same object as the func_code attribute of the function that produced the
427 generator.
428
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000429- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the compiler,
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000430 even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is supposed to be run when
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000431 the condition is false. Now the compiler correctly emits bytecode for the
432 "else" suite.

555 PyObject_Call() never calling back out to Python code to trigger recursion
556 depth updates/checks. Required the creation of a static RuntimeError
557 instance in case normalizing an exception put the recursion check value past
558 its limit. Fixes crashers infinite_rec_(1|2|4|5).py.

589 inherited from a builtin base.
590
Vinay Sajip8549ce32007-05-06 17:53:37 +0000591- When __slots__ are set to a unicode string, make it work the same as
Neal Norwitzcbd9ee62007-04-14 05:25:50 +0000592 setting a plain string, ie don't expand to single letter identifiers.
