289 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
290 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
291 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
292 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
293 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000355
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000356- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
357 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
358 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
359 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
360 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
361 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
362 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
363 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
364 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
365 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
366 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
367 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
368 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
369 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
370 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
371 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
372 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
373 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
374 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
375 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
376
377 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
378 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
379 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
380 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
381 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
382 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
383 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
384 access to the underlying socket used.
385
386 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
387 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
388 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000389
390 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000391 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

393 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
394
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000395 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
396 suite to run in parallel without issue.

454 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

670- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000671
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000672- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000673 issue 215555 for a discussion.
674
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000675- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
676 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
677 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
678 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
679 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
680 module is:
681 from future_builtins import hex, oct
682
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000683- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
684 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
685 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
686 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
687 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
688 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
689
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000690- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
691 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
692 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
693 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
694 PyObject_Format().
695
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000696- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
697 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
698 state.

709 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000710
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000711- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

713 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000714
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000715- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free

717
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000718- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

727 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000728
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000729- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

743 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000744

933 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000934 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
