39
Hirokazu Yamamoto2c66b7c2008-10-09 18:06:58 +000040- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW

42 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
43
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc00c94ed2008-10-07 20:40:09 +000044- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
45 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual

165- Issue #3850: recursion tests in Misc/find_recursion_limit.py can raise

182Core and Builtins
183-----------------
184
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000185- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
186
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000187- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
188 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
189 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
190 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
191 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
192 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
193 64bit values.
194
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000195- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
196 error.
197
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000198- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
199 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
200 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
201 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
202
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000203- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
204 a unicode argument.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000209 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000210 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
211
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000212- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000213 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
214 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
215 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
216 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
217 type object.
218
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000219- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
220
221- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
222
223- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
224
225- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
226
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000227- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
228 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
229
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000230- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
231 ``__delslice__``.
232
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000233- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
234 library targets in the Makefile.

237 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
238 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
239

247
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000248- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
249 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

358Core and Builtins
359-----------------
360
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000361- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
362 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
363 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
364 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
365 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
366 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
367 default.
368
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000369- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
370 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
371
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000372- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
373 value again.
374
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000375- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
376 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
377 and introducing s*.
378
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000379- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
380 object was stored in the freelist.
381
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000382- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
383 ValueError consistently across platforms.
384
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000385- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
386 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
387 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
388
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000389- Apply security patches from Apple.
390
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000391- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
392 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
393
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000394- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
395 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
396
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000397- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
398 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
399 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
400
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000401- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
402 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
403 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
404 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
405 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
406 failed have been fixed.
407
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000408Library
409-------
410
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000411- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
412
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000413- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
414 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
415
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000416- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
417 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
418 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
419
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000420- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
421 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
422 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
423 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
424 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
425 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
426
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000427- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
428 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
429
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000430- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
431
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000432- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
433
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000434- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
435
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000436- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
437 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
438
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000439- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
440 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
441
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000442- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
443 in a redirect.
444
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000445- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000446 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000447
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000448- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
449 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
450
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000451- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
452 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
453 regular expression.
454
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000455- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
456 thread-safe.
457
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000458- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
459 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
460 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
461
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000462- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
463
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000464- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
465 menu entries were not deleted.
466
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000467- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
468 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
469
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000470- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
471 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
472
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000473- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
474 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
475 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
476
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000477- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
478 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
479 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
480
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000481- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
482 the reload() built-in has been removed.
483
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000484- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000485 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000486 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,

488 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
489 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
490 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000491
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000492- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
493 raised an AttributeError.
494
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000495- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000496 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
497 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000498
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000499- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
500 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.

508
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000509- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.

512 invalid arguments.
513
514- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
515 with None arguments.
516
517- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
518 configuration files.
519
520- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
521
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000522- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
523 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
524 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
525
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000526- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
527 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
528 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000538- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
539 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
540
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000541- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
542 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
543 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
544 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

551
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000552Core and Builtins
553-----------------
554
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000555- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
556 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
557 an integer using operator.index().
558
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000559- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
560 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
561
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000562- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
563 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
564
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000565- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
566 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
567 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
568
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000569- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
570 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
571 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
572 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
573 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
574 level.
575
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000576- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
577 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
578 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
579 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
580 all imports from that module to fail.
581
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000582- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
583 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
584 new-style classes.
585
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000586- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
587 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
588 another file in sys.stdout.
589
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000590- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
591 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
592 another thread's dictionary.
593
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000594- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
595 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
596 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
597 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
598 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
599 10, -1).
600
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000601- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
602 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
603 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000604
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000605- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
606 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
607 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000608

613 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
614 error when they failed.
615
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000616- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001115- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1116 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1117 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1118 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

1189 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1190 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1191 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1192 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1193 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1194 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1195 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1196 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1197 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1198 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1199 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1200 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1201 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1202 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1203 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1204 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1205
1206 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1207 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1208 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1209 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1210 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1211 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1212 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1213 access to the underlying socket used.
1214
1215 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1216 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1217 connect).

1492-----------------
1493
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001494- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001495 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001496
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001497- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1498
1499- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001500
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001501- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001502 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1503
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001504- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1505 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1506 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1507 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1508 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1509 module is:
1510 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1511
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001512- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1513 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1514 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1515 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1516 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1517 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1518
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001519- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1520 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1521 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1522 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1523 PyObject_Format().
1524
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001525- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1526 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1527 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001528
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001529- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001530 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1531 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001536- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1537 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1538 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001539
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001540- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1541 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1542 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001543
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001544- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1545 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1546
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001547- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1548 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001549
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001550- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API
1551 functions ``PyInt_CompactFreeList`` and ``PyFloat_CompactFreeList``

1555 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1556 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001557
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001558- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001570- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1571 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1572 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001573
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001574- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1575 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1576 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1577 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

3182-----
3183
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003184- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
3185 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3186 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3187 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003188
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003189- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3190 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3191 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00003192

3200
3201- Issue #1534: Added ``PyFloat_GetMax()``, ``PyFloat_GetMin()`` and
3202 ``PyFloat_GetInfo()`` to the float API.
3203
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003204- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3205 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3206 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3207 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003208
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003209- Issue #1629: Renamed Py_Size, Py_Type and Py_Refcnt to Py_SIZE,

3227- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3228 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3229
3230- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3231 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
3232
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003233- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003265- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
3266 This lead to the deprecation of macostools.touched() as it relied
