Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000281- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
282 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000351- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
352 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
353 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
354 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
355 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
356 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
357 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
358 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
359 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
360 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
361 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
362 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
363 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
364 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
365 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
366 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
367 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
368 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
369 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
370 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
371
372 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
373 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
374 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
375 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
376 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
377 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
378 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
379 access to the underlying socket used.
380
381 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
382 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
383 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000384
385 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000386 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000387 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
388 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
389
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000390 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
391 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000446- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000447 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
448 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the

450 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

670
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000671- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
672 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
673 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
674 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
675 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
676 module is:
677 from future_builtins import hex, oct
678
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000679- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
680 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
681 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
682 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
683 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
684 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
685
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000686- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
687 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
688 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
689 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
690 PyObject_Format().
691
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000692- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
693 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent

705 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000706
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000707- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

709 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000710

713
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000714- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

723 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000724
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000725- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they
