308 when passed a value less than or equal to zero.
Gregory P. Smith671c5d92008-04-09 18:18:43 +0000309
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000310- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
311 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
312 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
313 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
314 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
315 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
316 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
317 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

362
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000363- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple

378-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000379
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000380- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
381 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
382 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
383 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
384 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
385 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
386 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
387 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
388 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
389 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
390 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
391 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
392 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
393 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
394 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
395 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
396 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
397 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
398 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
399 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
400
401 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
402 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
403 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
404 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
405 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
406 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
407 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
408 access to the underlying socket used.
409
410 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
411 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
412 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000413
414 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000415 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000416 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
417 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
418
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000419 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
420 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000474- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000475 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

478 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

693
694- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000695
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000696- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000697 issue 215555 for a discussion.
698
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000699- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
700 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
701 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
702 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
703 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
704 module is:
705 from future_builtins import hex, oct
706
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000707- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
708 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
709 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
710 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
711 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
712 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
713
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000714- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
715 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
716 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
717 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
718 PyObject_Format().
719
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000720- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
721 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
722 state.

Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000724- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

733 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000734
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000735- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
736 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
737 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000738
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000739- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
740 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
741
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000742- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

750 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
751 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000752
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000753- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

766 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
767 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000768
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000769- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
770 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
771 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
772 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000773
