Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000337- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
338 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
339 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
340 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
341 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
342 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
343 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
344 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
345 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
346 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
347 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
348 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
349 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
350 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
351 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
352 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
353 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
354 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
355 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
356 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
357
358 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
359 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
360 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
361 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
362 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
363 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
364 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
365 access to the underlying socket used.
366
367 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
368 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
369 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000370
371 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000372 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000373 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
374 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
375
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000376 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
377 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +0000648 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000650- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
651
652- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000653
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000654- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000655 issue 215555 for a discussion.
656
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000657- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
658 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
659 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
660 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
661 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
662 module is:
663 from future_builtins import hex, oct
664
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000665- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
666 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
667 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
668 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
669 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
670 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
671
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000672- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
673 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
674 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
675 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
676 PyObject_Format().
677
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000678- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
679 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
680 state.

691 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000692
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000693- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
694 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
695 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000696
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000697- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
698 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
699
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000700- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

708 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
709 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000710
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000711- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

724 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
725 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000726

728 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
729 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
730 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000731
