Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000394- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
395 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
396 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
397 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
398 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
399 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
400 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

462-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000463
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000464- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
465 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
466 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
467 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
468 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
469 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
470 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
471 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
472 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
473 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
474 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
475 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
476 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
477 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
478 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
479 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
480 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
481 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
482 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
483 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
484
485 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
486 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
487 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
488 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
489 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
490 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
491 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
492 access to the underlying socket used.
493
494 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
495 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
496 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000497
498 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000499 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

501 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
502
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000503 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
504 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000558- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000559 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

782
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000783- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
784 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
785 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
786 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
787 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
788 module is:
789 from future_builtins import hex, oct
790
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000791- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
792 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
793 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
794 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
795 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
796 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
797
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000798- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new

802 PyObject_Format().
803
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000804- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
805 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
806 state.

Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000808- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

813 real or imaginary part.
Christian Heimes2f0da532008-02-15 06:57:08 +0000814
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000815- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
816 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
817 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000818
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000819- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
820 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
821 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000822
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000823- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
824 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
825
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000826- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

832
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000833- Issue #1983: Fixed return type of fork(), fork1() and forkpty()
834 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
