Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000338- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
339 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
340 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
341 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
342 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
343 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
344 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
345 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
346 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
347 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
348 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
349 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
350 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
351 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
352 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
353 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
354 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
355 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
356 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
357 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
358
359 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
360 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
361 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
362 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
363 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
364 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
365 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
366 access to the underlying socket used.
367
368 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
369 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
370 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000371
372 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000373 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000374 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
375 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
376
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000377 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
378 suite to run in parallel without issue.

437 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

652
653- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000654
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000655- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000656 issue 215555 for a discussion.
657
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000658- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
659 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
660 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
661 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
662 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
663 module is:
664 from future_builtins import hex, oct
665
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000666- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
667 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
668 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
669 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
670 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
671 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
672
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000673- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
674 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
675 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
676 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
677 PyObject_Format().
678
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000679- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
680 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
681 state.

692 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000693
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000694- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
695 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
696 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000697

699 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
700
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000701- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

710 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000711
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000712- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they
