13-----------------
14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcdc619012008-11-22 20:01:18 +000015- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
16 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
17 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
18
Benjamin Petersonc078f922008-11-21 22:27:24 +000019- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
20 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
21
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000022- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
23 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
24 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
25 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
26
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000027- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
28 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
29
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000030- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.

35
Benjamin Petersondcee09d2008-10-31 02:16:05 +000036- Issue #4225: ``from __future__ import unicode_literals`` didn't work in an
37 exec statement.
38
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc69a9c5b2008-10-30 21:18:34 +000039- Issue #4176: Fixed a crash when pickling an object which ``__reduce__``
40 method does not return iterators for the 4th and 5th items.
41
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000042- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
43 __future__ import didn't work.
44
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000045- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000046 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000047
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000048- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
49 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
50 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
51
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000052- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
53 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
54 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
55 it correctly refers to the initial element.

199
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000200- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
201
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000202- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
203 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
204 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
205 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
206 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
207 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
208 64bit values.
209
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000210- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
211 error.
212
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000213- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
214 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
215 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
216 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
217
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000218- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
219 a unicode argument.
220
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000221- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.
222
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000223- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000224 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000225 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
226
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000227- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000228 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
229 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
230 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
231 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
232 type object.
233
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000234- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
235
236- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
237
238- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
239
240- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
241
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000242- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
243 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
244
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000245- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
246 ``__delslice__``.
247
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000248- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
249 library targets in the Makefile.
250
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000251- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
252 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
253 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
254
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +0000255C-API

262
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000263- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
264 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

373Core and Builtins
374-----------------
375
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000376- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
377 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
378 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
379 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
380 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
381 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
382 default.
383
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000384- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
385 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
386
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000387- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
388 value again.
389
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000390- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
391 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
392 and introducing s*.
393
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000394- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
395 object was stored in the freelist.
396
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000397- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
398 ValueError consistently across platforms.
399
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000400- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
401 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
402 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
403
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000404- Apply security patches from Apple.
405
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000406- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
407 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
408
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000409- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
410 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
411
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000412- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
413 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
414 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
415
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000416- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
417 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
418 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
419 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
420 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
421 failed have been fixed.
422
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000423Library
424-------
425
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000426- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
427
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000428- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
429 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
430
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000431- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
432 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
433 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
434
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000435- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
436 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
437 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
438 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
439 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
440 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
441
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000442- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
443 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
444
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000445- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
446
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000447- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
448
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000449- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
450
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000451- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
452 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
453
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000454- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
455 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
456
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000457- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
458 in a redirect.
459
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000460- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000461 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000462
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000463- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
464 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
465
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000466- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
467 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
468 regular expression.
469
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000470- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
471 thread-safe.
472
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000473- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
474 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
475 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
476
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000477- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
478
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000479- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
480 menu entries were not deleted.
481
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000482- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
483 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
484
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000485- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
486 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
487
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000488- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
489 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
490 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
491
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000492- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
493 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
494 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
495
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000496- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
497 the reload() built-in has been removed.
498
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000499- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000500 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000501 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
502 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
503 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
504 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
505 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000506
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000507- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
508 raised an AttributeError.
509
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000510- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000511 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
512 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000513
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000514- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
515 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
516

523
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000524- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
525
526- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
527 invalid arguments.
528
529- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
530 with None arguments.
531
532- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
533 configuration files.
534
535- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
536
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000537- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
538 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
539 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
540
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000541- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
542 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
543 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

551-------------
552
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000553- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
554 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
555
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000556- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
557 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
558 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
559 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

566
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000567Core and Builtins
568-----------------
569
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000570- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
571 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
572 an integer using operator.index().
573
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000574- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
575 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
576
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000577- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
578 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
579
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000580- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
581 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
582 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
583
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000584- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
585 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
586 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
587 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
588 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
589 level.
590
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000591- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
592 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
593 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
594 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
595 all imports from that module to fail.
596
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000597- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
598 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
599 new-style classes.
600
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000601- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
602 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
603 another file in sys.stdout.
604
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000605- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
606 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
607 another thread's dictionary.
608
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000609- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
610 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
611 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
612 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
613 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
614 10, -1).
615
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000616- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
617 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
618 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000619
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000620- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
621 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
622 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001130- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1131 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1132 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1133 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1134 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1135 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1136 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001200- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1201 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1202 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1203 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1204 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1205 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1206 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1207 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1208 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1209 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1210 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1211 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1212 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1213 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1214 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1215 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1216 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1217 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1218 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1219 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1220
1221 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1222 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1223 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1224 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1225 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1226 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1227 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1228 access to the underlying socket used.
1229
1230 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1231 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1232 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001233
1234 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001235 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1237 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1238
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001239 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1240 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001512- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1513
1514- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001515
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001516- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001517 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1518
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001519- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1520 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1521 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1522 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1523 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1524 module is:
1525 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1526
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001527- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1528 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1529 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1530 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1531 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1532 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1533
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001534- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1535 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1536 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1537 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1538 PyObject_Format().
1539
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001540- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1541 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1542 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001543
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001544- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1552 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1553 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001554
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001555- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1556 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1557 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001558

1697 smaller than LONG_MAX. Formerly, it raised an OverflowError. Now,
1698 automatically shifts from ints to longs.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001700- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the
1701 possibility of having a self-referential tuple, which is possible
1702 from C code. Nor did object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str
1703 could do something that could lead to an inifinite recursion.
1704 Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(), respectively, fixed the
1705 issues.

1708 'print' statement to write to a file since the GIL was not released
1709 as needed. Now PyObject_Print() does the right thing along with
1710 various tp_print implementations of the built-in types and those in

Brett Cannon1e534b52007-09-07 04:18:30 +00001720- Issue #1202533: Fix infinite recursion calls triggered by calls to
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001721 PyObject_Call() never calling back out to Python code to trigger

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001773- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1774 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1775 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1776 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1777 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001778 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature

3200 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3201 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3202 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003203

3205 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new

3220 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3221 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3222 incorrect results with huge strings.
