14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc74b458c2008-11-22 20:06:51 +000015- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the

23 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
24

39
Hirokazu Yamamoto2c66b7c2008-10-09 18:06:58 +000040- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
41 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
42 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
43
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc00c94ed2008-10-07 20:40:09 +000044- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
45 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
46 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
47 it correctly refers to the initial element.

188-----------------
189
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000190- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
191
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000192- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
193 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
194 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
195 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
196 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
197 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
198 64bit values.
199
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000200- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
201 error.
202
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000203- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
204 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
205 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
206 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
207
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000208- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
209 a unicode argument.
210

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000214 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000215 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
216
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000217- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000218 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
219 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
220 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
221 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
222 type object.
223
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000224- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
225
226- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
227
228- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
229
230- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
231
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000232- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
233 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
234
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000235- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
236 ``__delslice__``.
237
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000238- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
239 library targets in the Makefile.
240
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000241- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
242 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
243 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
244
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +0000245C-API

252
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000253- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
254 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

363Core and Builtins
364-----------------
365
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000366- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
367 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
368 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
369 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
370 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
371 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
372 default.
373
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000374- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
375 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
376
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000377- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
378 value again.
379
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000380- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
381 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
382 and introducing s*.
383
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000384- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
385 object was stored in the freelist.
386
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000387- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
388 ValueError consistently across platforms.
389
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000390- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
391 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
392 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
393
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000394- Apply security patches from Apple.
395
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000396- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
397 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
398
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000399- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
400 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
401
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000402- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
403 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
404 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
405
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000406- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
407 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
408 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
409 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
410 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
411 failed have been fixed.
412

414-------
415
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000416- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
417
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000418- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
419 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
420
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000421- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
422 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
423 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
424
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000425- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
426 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
427 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
428 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
429 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
430 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
431
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000432- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
433 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
434
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000435- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
436
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000437- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
438
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000439- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
440
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000441- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
442 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
443
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000444- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
445 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
446
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000447- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
448 in a redirect.
449
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000450- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000451 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000452
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000453- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
454 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
455
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000456- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
457 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
458 regular expression.
459
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000460- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
461 thread-safe.
462
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000463- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
464 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
465 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
466
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000467- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
468
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000469- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
470 menu entries were not deleted.
471
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000472- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
473 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
474
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000475- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
476 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
477
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000478- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
479 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
480 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
481
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000482- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
483 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
484 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
485
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000486- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
487 the reload() built-in has been removed.
488
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000489- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000490 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000491 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,

495 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000496
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000497- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
498 raised an AttributeError.
499
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000500- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000501 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
502 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000503
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000504- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
505 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.

518
519- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
520 with None arguments.
521
522- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging

524
525- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
526
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000527- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
528 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
529 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
530
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000531- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword

545
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000546- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed

Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000557Core and Builtins
558-----------------
559
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000560- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
561 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
562 an integer using operator.index().
563
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000564- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
565 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
566
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000567- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
568 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
569
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000570- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
571 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
572 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
573
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000574- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
575 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
576 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
577 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
578 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
579 level.
580
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000581- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
582 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
583 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
584 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
585 all imports from that module to fail.
586
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000587- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
588 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
589 new-style classes.
590
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000591- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
592 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
593 another file in sys.stdout.
594
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000595- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
596 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
597 another thread's dictionary.
598
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000599- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
600 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
601 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
602 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
603 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
604 10, -1).
605
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000606- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
607 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
608 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000609
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000610- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
611 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
612 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000613

618 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
619 error when they failed.
620
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000621- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001120- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1121 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1122 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1123 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001190- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1191 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1192 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1193 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1194 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1195 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1196 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1197 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1198 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1199 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1200 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1201 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1202 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1203 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1204 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1205 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1206 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1207 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1208 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1209 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1210
1211 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1212 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1213 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1214 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1215 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1216 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1217 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1218 access to the underlying socket used.
1219
1220 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1221 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1222 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001223
1224 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001225 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1227 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1228
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001229 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1230 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001500 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001501
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001502- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1503
1504- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001505
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001506- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001507 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1508
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001509- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1510 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1511 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1512 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1513 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1514 module is:
1515 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1516
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001517- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1518 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1519 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1520 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1521 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1522 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1523
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001524- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1525 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1526 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1527 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1528 PyObject_Format().
1529
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001530- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1531 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1532 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001533
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001534- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001541- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1542 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1543 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001544
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001545- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1546 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1547 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001548
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001549- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1550 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1551

1560 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1561 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001562
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001563- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001575- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1576 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1577 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001578

3187-----
3188
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003189- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
3190 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3191 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3192 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003193
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003194- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3195 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3196 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00003197

3205
3206- Issue #1534: Added ``PyFloat_GetMax()``, ``PyFloat_GetMin()`` and
3207 ``PyFloat_GetInfo()`` to the float API.
3208
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003209- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3210 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3211 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3212 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003213

3232- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3233 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3234
3235- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3236 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
