Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000373- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
374 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
375 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
376 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
377 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
378 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
379 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

436 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
437 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
438 data files.

Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000440Tests
441-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000442
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000443- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
444 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
445 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
446 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
447 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
448 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
449 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
450 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
451 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
452 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
453 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
454 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
455 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
456 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
457 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
458 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
459 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
460 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
461 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
462 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
463
464 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
465 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
466 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
467 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
468 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
469 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
470 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
471 access to the underlying socket used.
472
473 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
474 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
475 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000476
477 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000478 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000479 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
480 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
481
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000482 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
483 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000537- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000538 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

761
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000762- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
763 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
764 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
765 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
766 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
767 module is:
768 from future_builtins import hex, oct
769
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000770- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
771 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
772 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
773 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
774 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
775 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
776

796 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000797
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000798- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

814 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000815
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000816- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

829 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
830 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000831
