11
12Core and Builtins
13-----------------
14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcad9b5992008-12-10 23:22:49 +000015- Issue #4597: Fixed exception handling when the __exit__ function of a
16 context manager returns a value that cannot be converted to a bool.
17
Jeffrey Yasskinffd42cf2008-12-10 07:35:02 +000018- Issue #4597: Fixed several opcodes that weren't always propagating
19 exceptions.
20
Mark Dickinson826f3fe2008-12-05 21:55:28 +000021- Issue #4445: Replace "sizeof(PyStringObject)" with
22 "offsetof(PyStringObject, ob_sval) + 1" when allocating memory for
23 str instances. On a typical machine this saves 3 bytes of memory
24 (on average) per string allocation.
25
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcdc619012008-11-22 20:01:18 +000026- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
27 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
28 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
29
Raymond Hettinger7989a4d2008-12-03 15:42:10 +000030- Issue #3689: The list reversed iterator now supports __length_hint__
31 instead of __len__. Behavior now matches other reversed iterators.
32
Benjamin Petersonc078f922008-11-21 22:27:24 +000033- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
34 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
35
Vinay Sajip213faca2008-12-03 23:22:58 +000036- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000037 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
38 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
39 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
40
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000041- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
42 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
43
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000044- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.
45
Benjamin Peterson273c2332008-11-17 22:39:09 +000046- Issue #4230: If ``__getattr__`` is a descriptor, it now functions correctly.
47
Benjamin Peterson6624a9f2008-11-03 15:14:51 +000048- Issue #4048: The parser module now correctly validates relative imports.
49
Benjamin Petersondcee09d2008-10-31 02:16:05 +000050- Issue #4225: ``from __future__ import unicode_literals`` didn't work in an
51 exec statement.
52
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc69a9c5b2008-10-30 21:18:34 +000053- Issue #4176: Fixed a crash when pickling an object which ``__reduce__``
54 method does not return iterators for the 4th and 5th items.
55
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000056- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
57 __future__ import didn't work.
58
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000059- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000060 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000061
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000062- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
63 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
64 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
65
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000066- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
67 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
68 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
69 it correctly refers to the initial element.
70
Antoine Pitrouae5bece2008-12-06 21:29:24 +000071- Issue #4509: Various issues surrounding resize of bytearray objects to
72 which there are buffer exports.

75-------
76
Nick Coghlana2053472008-12-14 10:54:50 +000077- Issue #4223: inspect.getsource() will now correctly display source code

79 loader). Original patch by Alexander Belopolsky.
80
81- Issue #4201: pdb can now access and display source code loaded via
82 zipimport (or any other conformant PEP 302 loader). Original patch by
83 Alexander Belopolsky.
84
85- Issue #4197: doctests in modules loaded via zipimport (or any other PEP
86 302 conformant loader) will now work correctly in most cases (they
87 are still subject to the constraints that exist for all code running
88 from inside a module loaded via a PEP 302 loader and attempting to
89 perform IO operations based on __file__). Original patch by
90 Alexander Belopolsky.
91
92- Issues #4082 and #4512: Add runpy support to zipimport in a manner that
93 allows backporting to maintenance branches. Original patch by

279
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000280- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
281
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000282- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
283 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
284 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
285 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
286 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
287 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
288 64bit values.
289
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000290- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
291 error.
292
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000293- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
294 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
295 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
296 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
297
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000298- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
299 a unicode argument.
300
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000301- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000304 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000305 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
306
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000307- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000308 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
309 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
310 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
311 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
312 type object.
313
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000314- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
315
316- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
317
318- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
319
320- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.

450
Barry Warsaw07a4a382008-08-21 01:15:08 +0000451*Release date: 20-Aug-2008*
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000452
453Core and Builtins
454-----------------
455
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000456- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
457 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
458 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
459 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
460 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
461 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
462 default.
463
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000464- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
465 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
466
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000467- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
468 value again.
469
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000470- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
471 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
472 and introducing s*.
473
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000474- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
475 object was stored in the freelist.
476
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000477- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
478 ValueError consistently across platforms.
479
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000480- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
481 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
482 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
483
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000484- Apply security patches from Apple.
485
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000486- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
487 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
488
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000489- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
490 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
491
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000492- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
493 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
494 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
495
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000496- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
497 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
498 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
499 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
500 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
501 failed have been fixed.
502
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000503Library
504-------
505
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000506- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
507
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000508- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
509 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
510
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000511- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
512 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
513 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
514
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000515- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
516 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
517 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
518 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
519 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
520 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
521
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000522- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
523 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
524
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000525- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
526
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000527- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
528
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000529- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
530
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000531- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
532 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
533
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000534- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
535 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
536
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000537- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
538 in a redirect.
539
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000540- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000541 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000542
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000543- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
544 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
545
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000546- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
547 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
548 regular expression.
549
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000550- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
551 thread-safe.
552
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000553- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
554 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
555 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
556
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000557- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
558
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000559- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
560 menu entries were not deleted.
561
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000562- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
563 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
564
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000565- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
566 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
567
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000568- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
569 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
570 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
571
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000572- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
573 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
574 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
575
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000576- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
577 the reload() built-in has been removed.
578

Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000586
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000587- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
588 raised an AttributeError.
589
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000590- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000591 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
592 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000593
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000594- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification

649
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000650- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
651 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
652 an integer using operator.index().
653
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000654- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
655 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
656
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000657- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
658 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
659
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000660- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
661 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
662 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
663
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000664- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
665 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
666 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
667 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
668 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
669 level.
670
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000671- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
672 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
673 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
674 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
675 all imports from that module to fail.
676
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000677- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly

687 another thread's dictionary.
688
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000689- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
690 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
691 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
692 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
693 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
694 10, -1).

737 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000738 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001210- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1211 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1212 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1213 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1214 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1215 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1216 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
1217 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001280- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1281 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1282 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1283 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1284 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1285 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1286 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1287 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1288 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1289 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1290 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1291 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1292 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1293 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1294 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1295 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1296 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1297 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1298 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1299 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1300
1301 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1302 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1303 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1304 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1305 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1306 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1307 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1308 access to the underlying socket used.
1309
1310 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1311 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1312 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001313
1314 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001315 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1318
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001319 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1320 suite to run in parallel without issue.

1598
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001599- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1600 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1601 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1602 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1603 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1604 module is:
1605 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1606
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001607- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1608 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1609 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1610 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1611 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1612 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1613
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001614- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1615 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1616 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1617 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1618 PyObject_Format().
1619
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001620- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1621 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1622 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001623
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001624- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1633 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001634
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001635- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

1651 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001652

1670 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1671 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001853- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1854 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1855 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1856 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1857 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001858 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
1859 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001860
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001861- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an

1863 to the __float__() method. Therefore, the functions in the cmath
1864 module now can operate on objects that define a __complex__()
1865 method.
