320
Ronald Oussoren5640ce22008-06-05 12:58:24 +0000321- On MacOS X it is now possible to install the framework in 64-bit
322 mode or even as a 4-way universal binary (that is, PPC, i386,
Georg Brandl5cc774e2008-06-11 20:28:06 +0000323 PPC64 and x86_64 support in one binary).
Ronald Oussoren5640ce22008-06-05 12:58:24 +0000324
325 This is controlled by the configure argument ``--with-universal-archs``:
326

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000385- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
386 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
387 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
388 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
389 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
390 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
391 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
392 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

453-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000454
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000455- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
456 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
457 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
458 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
459 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
460 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
461 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
462 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
463 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
464 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
465 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
466 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
467 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
468 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
469 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
470 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
471 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
472 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
473 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
474 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
475
476 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
477 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
478 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
479 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
480 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
481 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
482 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
483 access to the underlying socket used.
484
485 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
486 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
487 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000488
489 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000490 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000491 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
492 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
493
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000494 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
495 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000782- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
783 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
784 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
785 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,

808 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000809
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000810- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000976 PyObject_Call() never calling back out to Python code to trigger
977 recursion depth updates/checks. Required the creation of a static
978 RuntimeError instance in case normalizing an exception put the
979 recursion check value past its limit. Fixes crashers
980 infinite_rec_(1|2|4|5).py.
Brett Cannon1e534b52007-09-07 04:18:30 +0000981

1029 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1030 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1031 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1032 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001033 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
1034 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001035
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001036- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an
1037 object to complex using its __complex__() method before falling back
1038 to the __float__() method. Therefore, the functions in the cmath
1039 module now can operate on objects that define a __complex__()
1040 method.
