321 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
322 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
323 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000328- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
329 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
330 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
331 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
332 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
333 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
334 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
335 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
336 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
337 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
338 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
339 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
340 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
341 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
342 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
343 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
344 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
345 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
346 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
347 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
348
349 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
350 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
351 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
352 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
353 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
354 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
355 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
356 access to the underlying socket used.
357
358 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
359 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
360 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000361
362 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000363 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000364 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
365 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
366
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000367 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
368 suite to run in parallel without issue.

427 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +0000639 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000641- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
642
643- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000644
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000645- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000646 issue 215555 for a discussion.
647
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000648- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
649 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
650 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
651 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
652 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
653 module is:
654 from future_builtins import hex, oct
655
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000656- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
657 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
658 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
659 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
660 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
661 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
662
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000663- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
664 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
665 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
666 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
667 PyObject_Format().
668
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000669- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
670 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
671 state.

682 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000683
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000684- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
685 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
686 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000687

689 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
690
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000691- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

700 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000701
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000702- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

716 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000717

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000829- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the

2329 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
