Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000289- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
290 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
291 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
292 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
293 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
294 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
295 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
296 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000358
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000359- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
360 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
361 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
362 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
363 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
364 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
365 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
366 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
367 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
368 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
369 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
370 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
371 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
372 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
373 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
374 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
375 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
376 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
377 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
378 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
379
380 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
381 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
382 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
383 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
384 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
385 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
386 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
387 access to the underlying socket used.
388
389 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
390 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
391 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000392
393 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000394 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

396 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
397
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000398 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
399 suite to run in parallel without issue.

673- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000674
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000675- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see

677
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000678- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
679 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
680 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
681 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
682 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
683 module is:
684 from future_builtins import hex, oct
685
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000686- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
687 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
688 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
689 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
690 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
691 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
692
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000693- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
694 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
695 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
696 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
697 PyObject_Format().
698
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000699- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
700 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent

712 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000713
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000714- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

716 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000717
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000718- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
719 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
720
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000721- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

730 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000731
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000732- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

746 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000747
