Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000298- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
299 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
300 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
301 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
302 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
303 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
304 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
305 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000367
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000368- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
369 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
370 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
371 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
372 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
373 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
374 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
375 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
376 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
377 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
378 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
379 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
380 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
381 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
382 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
383 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
384 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
385 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
386 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
387 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
388
389 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
390 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
391 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
392 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
393 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
394 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
395 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
396 access to the underlying socket used.
397
398 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
399 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
400 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000401
402 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000403 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

405 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
406
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000407 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
408 suite to run in parallel without issue.

681
682- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000683
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000684- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000685 issue 215555 for a discussion.
686
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000687- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
688 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
689 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
690 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
691 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
692 module is:
693 from future_builtins import hex, oct
694
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000695- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
696 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
697 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
698 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
699 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
700 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
701
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000702- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
703 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
704 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
705 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
706 PyObject_Format().
707
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000708- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
709 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
710 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000711
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000712- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

721 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000722
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000723- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
724 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
725 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000726

738 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
739 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000740
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000741- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they
