12
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +000013
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +000014- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
15 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
16 new-style classes.
17
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +000018- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
19 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
20 another file in sys.stdout.
21
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +000022- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
23 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
24 another thread's dictionary.
25
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +000026- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
27 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
28 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
29 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
30 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
31 10, -1).
32
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +000033- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments, f(a=2, a=23),
34 would not cause a syntax error. This was regression from 2.4 caused by the
35 switch to the new compiler.
36
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +000037- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with other

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +000048- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
49 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
50 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ with the
51 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
52 merged into trunk.
53
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +000054- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().

59
60- Issue #1746: Correct handling of zipfile archive comments (previously
61 archives with comments over 4k were flagged as invalid). Allow writing
62 Zip files with archives by setting the 'comment' attribute of a ZipFile.
63
Facundo Batista66c52772008-07-02 16:52:55 +000064- Issue #449227: Now with the rlcompleter module, callable objects are added

69
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +000070- Issue #2885 (partial): The urllib.urlopen() function has been deprecated for
71 removal in Python 3.0 in favor of urllib2.urlopen().

74 urllib module in Python 3.0 to urllib.request, urllib.parse, and

86 default https port (443).

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000567- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
568 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
569 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
570 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
571 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
572 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
573 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
574 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
575 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
576 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
577 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
578 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
579 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
580 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
581 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
582 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
583 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
584 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
585 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
586 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
587
588 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
589 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
590 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
591 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
592 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
593 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
594 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
595 access to the underlying socket used.
596
597 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
598 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +0000877 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +0000878
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000879- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
880
881- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000882
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000883- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000884 issue 215555 for a discussion.
885
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000886- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
887 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
888 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
889 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
890 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
891 module is:
892 from future_builtins import hex, oct
893
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000894- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
895 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
896 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
897 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
898 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
899 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
900
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000901- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
902 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
903 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
904 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
905 PyObject_Format().
906
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000907- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
908 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
909 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000910
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000911- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

920 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000921
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000922- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

938 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000939
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000940- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

957 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
958 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
959 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000960

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001140- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1141 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1142 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1143 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1144 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001145 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
1146 as supported by type.__new__().
