Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000284- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
285 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for

289 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
290 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

352-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000353
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000354- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
355 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
356 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
357 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
358 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
359 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
360 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
361 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
362 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
363 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
364 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
365 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
366 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
367 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
368 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
369 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
370 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
371 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
372 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
373 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
374
375 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
376 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
377 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
378 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
379 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
380 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
381 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
382 access to the underlying socket used.
383
384 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
385 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
386 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000387
388 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000389 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

391 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
392
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000393 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
394 suite to run in parallel without issue.

672
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000673- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
674 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
675 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
676 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
677 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
678 module is:
679 from future_builtins import hex, oct
680
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000681- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
682 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
683 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
684 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
685 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
686 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
687
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000688- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
689 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
690 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
691 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
692 PyObject_Format().
693
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000694- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
695 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
696 state.

707 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000708
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000709- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

711 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000712
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000713- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free

715
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000716- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

725 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000726
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000727- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

741 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000742
