154-----------------
155
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000156- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
157
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000158- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
159 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
160 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
161 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
162 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
163 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
164 64bit values.
165
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000166- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
167 error.
168
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000169- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
170 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
171 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
172 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
173
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000174- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
175 a unicode argument.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000180 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000181 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
182
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000183- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000184 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
185 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
186 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
187 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
188 type object.
189
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000190- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
191
192- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
193
194- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
195
196- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
197
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000198- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
199 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
200
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000201- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
202 ``__delslice__``.
203
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000204- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
205 library targets in the Makefile.
206
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000207- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
208 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
209 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

329Core and Builtins
330-----------------
331
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000332- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
333 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
334 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
335 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
336 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
337 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
338 default.
339
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000340- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
341 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
342
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000343- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
344 value again.
345
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000346- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
347 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
348 and introducing s*.
349
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000350- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
351 object was stored in the freelist.
352
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000353- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
354 ValueError consistently across platforms.
355
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000356- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
357 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
358 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
359
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000360- Apply security patches from Apple.
361
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000362- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
363 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
364
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000365- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
366 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
367
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000368- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
369 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
370 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
371
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000372- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
373 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
374 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
375 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
376 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
377 failed have been fixed.
378
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000379Library
380-------
381
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000382- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
383
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000384- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
385 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
386
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000387- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
388 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
389 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
390
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000391- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
392 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
393 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
394 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
395 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
396 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
397
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000398- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
399 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
400
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000401- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
402
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000403- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
404
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000405- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
406
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000407- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
408 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
409
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000410- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
411 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
412
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000413- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
414 in a redirect.
415
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000416- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000417 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000418
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000419- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
420 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
421
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000422- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
423 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
424 regular expression.
425
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000426- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
427 thread-safe.
428
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000429- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
430 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
431 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
432
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000433- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
434
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000435- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
436 menu entries were not deleted.
437
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000438- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
439 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
440
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000441- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
442 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
443
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000444- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
445 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
446 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
447
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000448- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
449 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
450 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
451
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000452- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
453 the reload() built-in has been removed.
454
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000455- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000456 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000457 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
458 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
459 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
460 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
461 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000462
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000463- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
464 raised an AttributeError.
465
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000466- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000467 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
468 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000469
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000470- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
471 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
472
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000473- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
474
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000475- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
476 on a closed shelf.
477
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000478- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
479
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000480- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
481
482- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
483 invalid arguments.
484
485- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
486 with None arguments.
487
488- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
489 configuration files.
490
491- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
492
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000493- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
494 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
495 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
496
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000497- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
498 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
499 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
500
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000501Build

504- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
505
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000506Documentation
507-------------
508
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000509- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
510 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
511
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000512- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
513 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
514 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
515 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000521*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
522
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000523Core and Builtins
524-----------------
525
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000526- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
527 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
528 an integer using operator.index().
529
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000530- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
531 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
532
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000533- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
534 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
535
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000536- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
537 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
538 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
539
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000540- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
541 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
542 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
543 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
544 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
545 level.
546
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000547- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
548 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
549 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
550 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
551 all imports from that module to fail.
552
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000553- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
554 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
555 new-style classes.
556
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000557- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
558 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
559 another file in sys.stdout.
560
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000561- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
562 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
563 another thread's dictionary.
564
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000565- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
566 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
567 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
568 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
569 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
570 10, -1).
571
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000572- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
573 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
574 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000575
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000576- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
577 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
578 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000579

581-------
582
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000583- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
584 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
585 error when they failed.
586
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000587- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
588
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000589- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
590
Georg Brandla24869a2008-07-16 22:33:18 +0000591- Issue #3312: Fix two crashes in sqlite3.
592

594
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000595- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
596 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
597
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000598- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000599
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000600- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
601 a valid dlerror() message.
602
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000603- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
604 incomplete structure was created.
605
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000606- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
607
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000608- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
609
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000610- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000611
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000612- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
613 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000614 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000615 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
616 merged into trunk.
617
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +0000618- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001086- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1087 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1088 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1089 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

1154-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001155
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001156- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1157 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1158 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1159 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1160 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1161 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1162 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1163 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1164 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1165 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1166 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1167 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1168 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1169 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1170 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1171 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1172 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1173 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1174 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1175 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1176
1177 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1178 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1179 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1180 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1181 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1182 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1183 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1184 access to the underlying socket used.
1185
1186 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1187 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1188 connect).

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001466 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001467
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001468- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1469
1470- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001471
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001472- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001473 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1474
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001475- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1476 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1477 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1478 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1479 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1480 module is:
1481 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1482
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001483- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1484 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1485 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1486 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1487 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1488 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1489
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001490- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1491 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1492 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1493 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1494 PyObject_Format().
1495
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001496- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1497 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1498 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001499
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001500- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001501 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1502 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001507- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1508 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1509 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001510
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001511- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1512 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1513 to a bound method.

1526 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1527 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001528
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001529- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001541- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1542 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1543 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001544
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001545- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1546 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1547 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1548 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001549

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003160- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3161 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3162 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.

3174
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003175- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3176 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3177 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3178 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003179

3197
3198- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3199 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3200
3201- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3202 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
3203
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003204- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003236- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
