324
Ronald Oussoren5640ce22008-06-05 12:58:24 +0000325- On MacOS X it is now possible to install the framework in 64-bit
326 mode or even as a 4-way universal binary (that is, PPC, i386,
Georg Brandl5cc774e2008-06-11 20:28:06 +0000327 PPC64 and x86_64 support in one binary).
Ronald Oussoren5640ce22008-06-05 12:58:24 +0000328
329 This is controlled by the configure argument ``--with-universal-archs``:
330
331 - ``--with-universal-archs=all``: install 4-way universal
332
333 - ``--with-universal-archs=32-bit``: install 2-way universal, 32-bit (the default)
334
335 - ``--with-universal-archs=64-bit``: install 2-way universal, 64-bit

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000389- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
390 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
391 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
392 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
393 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
394 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
395 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

457-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000458
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000459- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
460 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
461 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
462 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
463 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
464 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
465 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
466 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
467 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
468 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
469 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
470 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
471 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
472 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
473 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
474 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
475 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
476 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
477 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
478 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
479
480 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
481 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
482 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
483 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
484 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
485 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
486 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
487 access to the underlying socket used.
488
489 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
490 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
491 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000492
493 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000494 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000495 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
496 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
497
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000498 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
499 suite to run in parallel without issue.

777
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000778- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
779 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
780 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
781 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
782 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
783 module is:
784 from future_builtins import hex, oct
785
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000786- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
787 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
788 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
789 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
790 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
791 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
792
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000793- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new

797 PyObject_Format().
798
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000799- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
800 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
801 state.

Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000803- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

811 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
812 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000813
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000814- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
815 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
816 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000817

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000828- Issue #1983: Fixed return type of fork(), fork1() and forkpty()
829 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
830 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000831
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000832- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they
