114 passed a value less than or equal to zero.
115
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +0000116- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the original Python
117 code has been kept as backup). This will allow for using the 'warning's
118 machinery in such places as the parser where use of pure Python code is not
Brett Cannonb457dda2008-05-02 02:25:09 +0000119 possible. Both the ``showarning()`` and ``formatwarning()`` gain an
120 optional 'line' argument which is not called by default for
Brett Cannon8a232cc2008-05-05 05:32:07 +0000121 backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting ``warnings.showwarning()`` to
122 an implementation that lacks support for the ``line`` argument will raise a
123 DeprecationWarning.
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +0000124

Thomas Hellerbf027c42008-04-24 18:14:19 +0000145 reference to themselves.
146
Gregory P. Smithd59fefb2008-04-22 08:11:33 +0000147- The getpass module has been improved on Unix. It now uses /dev/tty
148 by default and uses stderr instead of stdout. A GetPassWarning is
149 issued when input echo cannot be controlled.
Gregory P. Smith41e30182008-04-21 21:31:08 +0000150
Skip Montanarob131f042008-04-18 20:35:46 +0000151- Issue #2014: Allow XML-RPC datetime objects to have dates before

165 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
166 build documentation for more information.
167
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000168- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
169 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
170 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
171 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
172
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +0000173- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
174 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to

176
Fred Drake46c58c12008-04-04 05:41:30 +0000177- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available, so the
178 controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical script
179 environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to data files.
180
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000181Tests
182-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000183- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining ports
184 to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an effort to
185 facilitate running multiple instances of the entire regression test suite
186 in parallel without issue. test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such
187 that it will always return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case
188 with the previous implementation, especially if socket options had been
189 set that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
190 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception if it
191 is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the SO_REUSEADDR or
192 SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if available, bind_port()
193 will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on the socket it's been passed.
194 This currently only applies to Windows. This option prevents any other
195 sockets from binding to the host/port we've bound to, thus removing the
196 possibility of the 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it,
197 that occurs when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a
198 host/port that's already been bound by another socket. The optional
199 preferred port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
200 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
201
202 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will pass
203 a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an unused port.
204 The temporary socket object is then closed and deleted, and the port is
205 returned. This method should only be used for obtaining an unused port
206 in order to pass to an external program (i.e. the -accept [port] argument
207 to openssl's s_server mode) or as a parameter to a server-oriented class
208 that doesn't give you direct access to the underlying socket used.
209
210 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used for
211 the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and connect).
212
213 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
214 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
215 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
216 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
217
218 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test suite to
219 run in parallel without issue.

225
Thomas Hellerdc96a772008-04-04 10:07:55 +0000226- Issue #2544: On HP-UX systems, use 'gcc -shared' for linking when
227 gcc is used as compiler.
228
Ronald Oussoren580c7fe2008-05-02 19:45:11 +0000229- Issue #2573: On MacOS X it is now possible to install the framework
230 with a different name using --with-framework-name=NAME.

236 to the new files Include/pymath.h and Python/pymath.h for
237 platforms which provide the functions through their libm. The
238 files also contains several helpers and constants for math.
239
Benjamin Petersona692c4d2008-04-27 02:28:02 +0000240- Added a new convenience function, PyErr_WarnPy3k, for issuing Py3k
241 warnings.

Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000496- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
497 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
498 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
499 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
500 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
501 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).

662
Brett Cannon0b14f242007-09-30 19:45:10 +0000663- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the possibility of
664 having a self-referential tuple, which is possible from C code. Nor did

732 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
733 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
734 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
735 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000736 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
737 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000738
Georg Brandl2b869942007-03-17 16:08:45 +0000739- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an object

Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002095 it does not steal a reference to the added item.

2111 results with huge strings.
2112
2113- Issue #1629: Renamed Py_Size, Py_Type and Py_Refcnt to Py_SIZE, Py_TYPE
2114 and Py_REFCNT.
2115

2131 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
2132
2133- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
2134 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.

2138 some conditions.
2139
Andrew M. Kuchlingadc60ab2008-01-04 02:26:00 +00002140- Added case insensitive comparison methods ``PyOS_stricmp(char*, char*)``
